Health insurance and residency permit catch 22

Can't get one without the other, how to solve this

I have a problem with Health Insurance and a residency permit and wondering if anyone can help. I am an Australian who moved to Munich on the 30th of October this year to live with my German girlfriend, study German and find work in the future once I can speak German better. I need health insurance to get a residency permit and a residency permit to get health insurance and both parties are not helpful and say they need to see the other document first. What a joke... all the research we did before the move indicated it was not problem to do.
If anyone can offer some advise it would be appreciated greatly.

I'd recommend getting a year insurance from back home, which will allow you to get your residency permit and you'll save thousands in the process. It's what I did for my first couple of years here, and paid only €300 for 12 months insurance. Avoid getting Germish insurance for as long as you can, it's exceptionally expensive.

If you want, I can put you in touch with an excellent broker, ie independant.

Thank you for interest, a broker would be of interest for sure. If you can tell me a name and contact number I would appreciate it. I think my health insurance in Australia said they wont insure me overseas and travel insurance is no good here.

What do you mean your travel insurance is no good here? The KVR firstly rejected mine as it wasn't German insurance, but when I pushed them they accepted it...as long as you have medical insurance of some sort, you'll be ok.

If your Australian insurance or travel insurance won't work (I know the accepting of travel insurance differs from Ausländerbehörde to Ausländerbehörde which makes it all the more frustrating for anyone to deal with them) I would suggest setting you up with a international health insurance the authorities will accept. I am an independent broker (see disclosure below) in the Munich area and happy to help. Just to give you a rough idea: for a 25 year old male I can set up coverae for all Europe for around 69.- EUr per month. And this plan comes with documents in German language for the German bureaucrats which is why it is easily accepted by them, most of all because the contracts are underwritten by a major German insurance company.
