Moving to Germany from Ireland

Relocation and work advice for an artist

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum (so forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong section completely!) and looking for information about life in Germany, as I may be moving there next summer. Specifically, finding work: How easy is it to get a job in Germany with only basic German? I work mostly in office type work, but would be willing to do just about anything. Hotels, restaraunts, etc. I'm assuming I'll need a couple of months survival money (I'm guessing 2500 euro for 2 months) to give myself a period of settling in and leanguage learning time. I'm also an artist - what part of Germany has the strongest art community?

I'm assuming it's easy getting to know people - especially conisdering the amount of events that are being discussed in the social forums...!!

Many thanks for your help - look forward to hearing from some of you!,

Paul.

Hi Paul,

I can't help you with much of your post but I can tell you that 2500 might not go as far as you think, unless you've already factored in the expense of paying rent and deposit for your accommodation.

Have a look at this page...How to Germany.com and scroll down to the bit where it gives advise about first couple of months rent as a caution/deposit. And the finders fee at the Immobilien if you have to go down that road.

Just something you might have to consider, but maybe you've covered all that off already. Best of luck with the art scene...no idea myself. tongue.gif

cheers
