Oh, the cyclists here in Germany

Are they a law unto themselves?

but to call him an asshole for crossing a pedestrian crossing at red and getting killed is a little harsh.

...understatement of the year.

odenwalder, I know my response is probably futile but your comments are disgraceful and heartless. I hope you're a little wiser when you get to be 'an old fart'

The old fart is dead because he was stupid. Now this 44 year old woman has to live the rest of her life because she ran over the old fucker. On top of all the psycho bullshit she will have to deal with, she also has minor injuries AND a banged up car that she has to get fixed and go through the hassle of dealing with the insurance company to pay for it.

He's dead, she's fucked. Fair? Hardly. But I'm sure HE had somewhere really important that he had to be to run that red light. Asshole.

Well, how about this then? Saturday morning I was cycling to work, in a two lane street. Since the right lane is right turn only I looked behind well in advance, verified that nobody in the left lane was indicating a right turn, accelerated and signalled left (I had to go straight).
This bitch in a A-Class mercedes, who was definitely going faster than the limit and did NOT signal that she was moving from the left lane to the right one to turn in Berliner Strasse, had to slow down and then even honked at me, to which I yelled that she should have blinked.

So, if traffic problems are to be solved by the death of who is at fault, how do you suggest that I (80kg cyclist on a 10kg bike, as you posted earlier) solve my problems with cars that run a red light or do not give me way when they are required to? Carry a weapon on me?

Bane of my life too. Especially the ones who stop after the lights (bonus points if they can block the pedestrian crossing) and wait for the pedestrian lights to go green... while not seeming to be aware that the special bike lights actually change before all the others, so by the time they've realized they can go, I've circled round them and cleared the crossing (and I don't even have toeclips).

I agree, that's very annoying. But I don't think it's a feature of German cyclists.
I've seen it in other places where I lived and cycled.
The worst ever was a benefit ride from Seattle, WA to Victoria, BC, where tens of slower cyclists would think it was a good idea to overtake the faster ones who were stopped at the red traffic lights.

This bitch in a A-Class mercedes ... did NOT signal

It sounds like you were in the right here. But, does this action really surprise you? C'mon, you and I both know that Mercedes (and about half of BMWs) does not install turn signals in their cars. Even if they did, the drivers are so used to not having them that they still wouldn't use them. ** And before people start shouting about car envy; Not a chance. I had a brand new BMW once, utter shit. Now I own only Audi. A 2005 S-Line TDI and a 2006 TT Roadster. No car envy here**
