Johan Santana moved closer to Boston early this morning. After meeting well into the night at the winter meetings in Nashville, according to multiple reports, the Red Sox and Twins traded medical information on Santana and lefthander Jon Lester, signaling that a trade could be close. The Red Sox would send Lester, center fielder Coco Crisp, minor league infielder Jed Lowrie and righthander Justin Masterson for Santana. The two sides were expected to resume talks this afternoon.
BOSTON (AP) -- Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling called on Roger Clemens to give up the four Cy Young Awards he's won since 1997 if he can't clear his name from allegations that he used steroids to prolong and enhance his career. "If he doesn't do that then there aren't many options as a fan for me other than to believe his career 192 wins and three Cy Youngs he won prior to 1997 were the end," Schilling wrote Wednesday in his blog, 38pitches.com. "From that point on the numbers were attained through using (performance-enhancing drugs). Just like I stated about Jose (Canseco), if that is the case with Roger, the four Cy Youngs should go to the rightful winners, and the numbers should go away if he cannot refute the accusations."
One of Brian McNamee's lawyers predicted Roger Clemens will be pardoned by President Bush, saying some Republicans treated his client harshly because of the pitcher's friendship with the Bush family.
Richard Emery made the claims Thursday, a day after a congressional hearing broke down along party lines. Many Democrats were skeptical of Clemens' denials he used performance-enhancing drugs and Republicans questioned the character of McNamee, the personal trainer who made the accusations against the seven-time Cy Young Award winner.
"It would be the easiest thing in the world for George W. Bush, given the corrupt proclivities of his administration, to say Roger Clemens is an American hero, Roger Clemens helped children," Emery said in a telephone interview. "It's my belief they have some reason to believe they can get a pardon."

It's simple, delay prosecution. Bush leaves office sometime late January 2009.
Also, why aren't there any Red Sox on Mitchell's list?
Anyway, star coach Joe Torre's move to LA is a marriage of talent and strategy.
Go Dodgers! Go Blue!

Because Mitchell is an owner of the Red Sox, which inherently makes him a crooked bastard.
Go oakland, Ill take Billy Beene over the new pretty-much-as-evil-as-the-old empire any day. (Of course as soon as I post that the red schmucks get a 2 out go ahead double)..
(I'm also an Astros fan, but with our pitching this year im not gonna say that too loud)

How the hell is it going to do our first week since the sox are playing these early games, will those stats just count in the normal first week?

Predictions:
AL East: Yankers (The Girardi effect) AL Central: Indians (Strong top to bottom) AL West: Mariners (Angels pitching will fail them) AL Wild Card: Red Sox (I'm tempted to put Detroit here, but don't trust their pen, besides they're the Champs and PES wouldn't talk to me otherwise)
NL East: Braves (Mets won't stay healthy) NL Central: Cubs (Kiss of death, right there) NL West: Rockies (Four team toss-up, really) NL Wild Card: Brewers (Don't really believe this, but WTF)
The key to the whole season is that the Cubs need to get tantalizingly close to the World Series, yet fail once again. 100 years, baby!!!
American League AL East: Boston Red Sox AL Central: Cleveland Indians AL West: Los Angeles Angels AL wild card: Detroit Tigers
National League NL East: New York Mets NL Central: Chicago Cubs NL West: Arizona Diamondbacks NL wild card: Philadelphia Phillies
Divisional series AL — Red Sox over Tigers, Indians over Angels NL — Mets over Cubs, Phillies over D'backs
Championship series AL — Red Sox over Indians NL — Phillies over Mets
World Series
Red Sox over Phillies

Later!
Dodgers - National League West. All that talent and now Joe Torre to man the chess board.
Anyways, a great start at 5-0 against SFG at home.
Also glad to Santana pull off the 7-2 Opeing Day-er in Florida. (And - delayed - really glad to see Santana not go to the Boston Red Self-importants).

I like the 1-5 better the next day on Japan Opening Day 2 (I still have the screenshot of Jason Varitek fanning the last strike of the game if anyone'd like a copy).
And the four out of five wins by the Dodgers over the Self-importants in exhibition.

Okay explain something for me in our fantasy league:
Im switching roster spots every day, if I bench someone who played yesterday, the stats from him playing yesterday still count in my totals, right?
And with heads up you get points for each statistical catagory you won?
bohemka
Apr 2 2008, 12:05 pm
I'm not in your league, but yeah, even if you drop a player, his stats will stick with your weekly totals for the games he was in the lineup.
10 categories in H2H, 1 point for each. Win, lose or tie. And the points accummulate. It's not a win/lose from week to week. So if you go 5-3-2 in your first week that's what carries over, not that you won the H2H matchup.
And when it comes down to the championship, which is the only H2H that really counts as a true winner take all, ERA is the tie-breaker. I learned that one the hard way. RUNS. IT SHOULD BE RUNS. THAT'S WHAT WINS GAMES! But I have no bitterness at all.

PS. Was there a post about a league? I missed that one.
And it took all of 57 pitches for Pedro to injure himself again. That's a pretty good run for him.
Imissed the post too. by the way I believe El big Papi will skip the bench and go straight to weight watchers this year, a squirrel will come out of many's hair (if you can call it that), and Lugo will openly admit that he is anorexic. Othern than that, GO YANKEES!

I don't understand what's going on with the Blue Jays? How badly do they suck. I guess bad enough to bring back Cito Gaston who hasn't coached in 86 years. Damn, there goes the season. Stick a fork in the Jays, they be done.

So the BoSox will be the wildcard team. Good enough. They will face the Los Angeles Angels maybe next Wednesday. Against the Angels this year the BoSox went 1-8, but hell, when you can put up a three-man rotation of Lester, Beckett and Matsuzaka and a strong pen... well let´s have go. JJ, we will see your boys, from either side of town, somewhere, sometime... I am pulling for your White Sox... but they are struggling...

Man I thought my Astros were gonna have another miracle season at the end but Hurricane Ike ruined their mojo.
I can't beleive I have to root for a team from LA now, unless the plane carrying the Red Sox miraculously crashed (preferably into the Patriots training stadium while in use).
