Right, I dont mind being shot down in flames for asking yet another "cant fend for myself" question, but anyways...
My UK phone (O2) has not been working much if not all of day. It says "o2 de" on the screen, and the signal is pretty full so obviously there is no signal problem. it is a contract so i'm not out of credit either. But still nothing is sending from my phone.
inbox is not too full and nothing else is out of the ordinary, but everytime i try to text it doesnt work and asks if i want to retry.
any ideas what this could be?
thanks

Try the SMS again.
I'm with Vodafone and over the last week or two I've had a number of instances where an SMS has just said "Sending failed - Retry?" and it's eventually gone through. Never happened before a week or two ago.

I've never had this before either.
Cheers.

You couldn't have deleted the SMS zentrale number thingy by mistake could you? Look under SMS options and you should have a setting (called different things according to your mobile) which includes a phone number which is not your own...

just checked, seems fine too Kathie.
receiving messages fine, just not able to send.

sounds stupid but sometimes turning the phone off and taking the battery out helps my phone when it decides it doesn't want to work. or it could just be a problem with o2's network.

ive tried turning off and on as well. just trying now and to take battery out!
yeah, maybe o2 is just playing up or something and might remedy itself.

I had this kind of problem when I first got to Munich 2 years back.
After a few days, I could not send messages from my UK O2 card account phone, but I could receive them. I also noticed that if I switched the phone off and on when in a completely different location, (a location that I had not been to before), then I could send messages again.
So maybe its a network glitch.

It's because you're Scottish and a pisshead and the network is protecting other users from your unwanted messages and rants.

...but have you paid the bill? Aren't you the chappie who has all those minor difficulties with the everyday intricacies of banking?
The symptoms all point to a long outstanding bill.
Check it anyway.

but if can still dial out?
surely if i had been cut off it wouldnt even ring someone, but this does. i havent let it answer, but it does start ringing people.
the contract is a direct debit coming out my UK bank, and the overdraft limit is oh so high

plus i think they would have rang to inform me surely?
edit: it says "service unavailable" when i try from my old phone handset.

The obvious questions:
1. Have you contacted your provider?
2. Have you checked your bank statement?
3. Do you receive invoices?
4. Does the provider have your German address?
Hope it works out

not yet, i guess i will now though
all the stuff goes to my home, as the contract is in my mum's name you see.
not a huge amount i can actually do apart from ask her nicely to phone up

just unusual, as its happened before but only for the odd hour here and there like what people have mentioned now. last text i sent was yesterday morning in a sleepy haze but i dont think i could have knocked a setting or something.
edit: mother schotte has just emailed to say she will look into it

Is your message service centre number correctly specified? For a UK O2 "Pay Monthly" (contract) phone it should be "+447802000332". "00447802000332" or "07802000332" will not always work. Make sure (also in the settings) that your messages are being sent by GSM and not by GPRS or packet data. Unusual that it may seem, try also cleaning/lightly polishing the SIM contacts on both card and phone with a clean dry cloth to ensure good contact. If none of that fails change your roaming partner (change network from "Automatic" to "Manual" and select a non-O2 provider) to see if that provides a temporary solution. If you do this bear in mind that roaming costs may be higher if you make/receive calls, so only consider it a temporary solution to test SMS and change back to "Automatic" to make calls.

Yes, I am a tit.
I always like a man (and occasionally a woman), especially a Scot, who knows their place in society
