Tried to connect with my family in Ireland yesterday with Skype and web-cam on my Laptop. Connection is good, but only managed a frozen picture and erratic sound. Whenever picture changed it was showing an action that had taken place minutes earlier. A suggestion the our DSL and their Broadband connection were not compatible. I'm no expert. Any suggestions please ?

Just sounds like one of you has a crap connection - most probably the one "uploading". I dont think there should be any actual compatability issues. It's normally the UPLOAD that is too slow.
You can check speeds here:
http://gadgetshow.five.tv/jsp/speed_test.htmI bet it sucks compared to what you think you have paid for.

Managed to resolve the sound issue, but even with both camera lights on, still no pictures. Any suggestions.?

It has been suggested that I have insufficient ram ( 512 ) fitted, and that I should upgrade to at least 1 gigabite for any chance of success with our exchange of images. Correct.???

Under normal circumstances additional memory may speed up an application, but won't make something magically work that didn't before. Windows applications expand their memory requirements onto the (slooooooow) harddisk if they run out of main memory.
