Moving to Munich, advice needed

Neighborhoods and finding a flatshare

Hi guys, I'm about to graduate from college, and I've received notice that I've got a job in Munich for one year. I'm quite happy about it, but need help as I look for WGs without actually being in the city.

I lived in Berlin for one year from 2005-2006 and absolutely loved it. East Berlin was such a haven for me, I loved everything about it. And the one thing I was always told, is that southern Germany, particularly Munich, is completely different.

So, my question is, is there a particular neighborhood which has a similar feel to Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg, or Prenzlauerberg? To be more specific, a neighborhood with artists, bookshops, interesting cafes and bars, and not too big of a pricetag. I'm not one for luxury or super-modern stuff, but prefer something with soul. I realize Munich is not Berlin, and I shouldn't compare the two, but any sort of direction you guys could offer would be extremely appreciated.

and not too big of a pricetag.

All things are relative. What would you say is not too big a price tag? What exactly is your budget?

And what's a WG?

Pas, a WG is a Wohngemeinschaft or shared apartment.

most of the cool places in Munich are really central and come with a higher price tag in terms of rent prices. have a look at the TT wiki pages for an overview of the districts in Munich.
