Christmas market at the Fraueninsel, Chiemsee - Munich

The topic of the christmas markets is hot on everybodies lips and this one is one of the best, in my opinion.

It's located on the Fraueninsel on Chiemsee, which is absolutely beautiful. Get there early as it does get busy but it's well worth a visit. The island is home to a number of artists of various kinds so you can pick up some interesting gifts. There is also a playground in the middle of the island so if you have young kids they can play there if the weather is good.

From Munich you need about an hour to get there if the traffic is good. Directions are on the website.

Fraueninsel, Chiemsee

Although you don't need a car to get there of course; Munich Hbf to Prien am Chiemsee (from where you take the boat to the island) takes one hour by regional train, regardless of what the traffic is like. The Bayern Ticket gets 5 people there and back for €27 and additionally gives you a 10% discount on the Chiemsee boat.

If anyone is driving or going by train on Sunday the 9th - I would be VERY interested in going along.
