Happy to give credit where credit is due...went to see Robby Mack and was chuffed to bits with pretty much everything, from the consultation to the color and the cut. Only sting in the tail is that he's not the cheapest out there - the whole thing put me back 125 Euros. But I suppose it's cheaper (and more effective!) than seeing a pschycologist to drive away the last of the winter blues. Only problem is that now I'll be scuppered if he decides to leave Munich sometime - might have to commandeer a group of Robimack-fans to block the runway if it comes to that...

Hi all,
I've recently gotten a job and moved back here after studying here last year. My girlfriend is coming in June to be with me and she is a successful young hairdresser at an upscale salon back home in the U.S. She specializes in color - she's a whiz. The problem is, she doesn't speak hardly any German.
I have naturally read all of your posts and it's great that we've got a small list of contacts here to find her a job in Munich. If there are any of you who are on personal terms with your respective stylist(s), would you mind asking them if they know anyone who is looking for a stylist (either to do everything or just color - i'm telling you she loves it) and if a license in the States works over here as well? I figured that some of you visit places that have a pretty international clientele and that she may even have a bit of an advantage being a native English speaker.
Thank you all in advance for the help in making true love work - when it all works out I'll have an amazing story to tell you all

-A.J.

300% recommendation (shameless plug!) for Fabian and Thorsten at Adrenalin!
Fabian is my go-to guy, he's always full of ideas and has given me perfect cuts every time. The kind of cuts that look incredible but take a mere 5mins to style at home. He understands English but doesnt speak much, so go to Thorsten if you aren't comfortable enough in German.
Amazing salon decor, great atmosphere and an amazing hair styling duo.

I had my hair done at Fabian K and V. Sassoon.
Fabien K was great, I love Aveda. I had a cut and some highlights done. V. Sassoon was also top, but somehow I didn't feel really that comfortable in either salons. My boyfriend always gets his hair cut at Fabien K, he loves the massage and the relaxing experience plus his stylist knows what she is doing.
I wanted to try something new (and cheaper). Robert McKinnon is going on vacation now so I scheduled an appointment at El Corte with Chris for tuesday. I will keep you posted about the results. I have curly hair (and style it curly mostly) with mixed normal and coarse textures (3a by Naturallycurly.com standards) and I want to wear it straight sometimes. Hope to be of help to the other curly head here

Fabian is the best hair stylist I have ever been to! He is also very funny, I really enjoyed! Also you get free coffee and juices, they really make you feel at home there...And the hair cut...well, I got so many compliments for it, I could not believe! I love it! This is the first time I can style it again to look as if I just came from the hairsalon...Some friends told me this is the best cut I have ever had:)
So, definitelly, Fabian:)

Has anyone here had their hair cut in Munich as a model? My hair's reached that critical stage but can't afford hairdresser at the moment so was thinking about doing it this way. I saw Pony Club were advertising, but does anyone have any recommendations or, more importantly maybe, warnings??
Cheers.
PS, can also vouch for Fabian, had my best haircut ever with him when I was here 4 years ago...if only I could get a payrise...

Just have to say that I followed the trail of Toytowners to Adrenalin (and even met one in there with her beautifuil daughter!). I was a bit worried about what was going to happen, since I had it in mind to cut quite a lot of the length off my hair.
Thorsten took excellent care of me - and listened to what I wanted... then proceeded to tell me no way was he going to cut all my hair off. <laughing>!!! He explained why, that it would be harder for me to style and that I'd hate it, and then hate him, and he just flat out wouldn't do it. He then took the time to explain what he recommended for me but insisted I keep growing my very thick red slightly curly very annyoing hair

SO, I decided to just go with what he suggested. Thorsten took the time to show me why he was cutting it a certain way, and then when it came to styling he actually gave me a lesson in how to do my own hair. I wanted to wait a week to post so I could give an update - and I can tell you that my hair takes about 6 minutes to do (I timed it

). I NEVER DO MY HAIR. Ever. I have had tons of compliments at work and I love my hair! It feels sexy and pretty and fun, and best of all I can wear it natural or straight and it is easy for me to do.
Thorsten also showed me the world's greatest flat iron which I had to get... expensive but worth it I think!!!
So, huge recommendation for both Thorsten and Fabian from me. Fabian was also really sweet and I was ready to ask him to marry me while getting a scalp massage from him

If you buy the UK ones (like i did) they actually come with a Euro plug, covered by a clever "plug cover" that converts to UK with the correct fuse etc. You can just unscrew the cover and voila, Euro plug!

Oh yes. I love the ones who laugh out loud at my wishes.
I'm glad you are happy with the results.
I tried a new salon at
Nordbad just up from McDonalds. I can't remember the name of the place but the guy who cut my hair is Nelson and I am really pleased. It is just across the street from the bus/tram platform on Leonrodstr. His name is Nelson and the number is 45473838 if anyone is interested in the location and a great haircut.
I told him to just take off a little and proceeded to let him have his way with me. He is good.

@jennywren - I was in there on Wednesday and they were rushed off their feet so maybe have no time to answer the phone - they're down to two staff from the original four so I'd say you need an appointment. I was the third Toytowner there that day...very happy with the results and Fabien said I can drop in any time for a free fringe trim. He's lovely

I was having a very difficult time contacting the guys at Adrenalin also. I decided to stop by and see if my luck would improve. They were closed, and the window sign said they are only open after 12:00. So if you call prior to that, you'll not get an answer. Here's what the sign reads: Tuesday bis saturday 12:00-21:00. I did manage to get an appointment, but then had to reschedule for next week. Good luck!

hi everyone!
I'm new to munich and am a hair stylist from the detroit area. I will now be working at adrenalin salon starting this friday, july 4th. I have extensive training with Redken 5th Avenue and L'oreal. I have four years worth of experience and education. I'd love to invite any of you to visit me in the salon on fridays or saturdays. I'm obviously searching to meet new people and it's been great so far. So please stop by if you'd like!
Thank you, as well, for posting so much about the salons in munich because I would have not known where to start as far as the job search goes. Fabian and Thorsten seem fantastic and have been very welcoming to me.
ps- I'll the 24 year old blonde girl.

Another 5 stars for a Robimack haircut again.. I came back to him from Venice to have my hair cutted by him (ok, I'm on holiday in Munich, but it doesn't count

), he is just the best, he definitely take his time for an haircut (fine and cool without being fancy), explaining why and how, and he is friendly and makes yourself at home too!

Anyone been to Vidal Sassoon on
Odeonsplatz?
My sister and me are very fond of the Vidal Sassoon, they do a good cut there. Expensive, though. This is, however, the price I'm willing to pay for not having to try a lot of the cheaper guys, who might of mightn't give me a hairache.

When I first moved to Munich two years ago I tried Vidal Sassoon, and they were brilliant. Excellent service, great cut. I stayed with them for a year, and then tried other hair dressers because I thought 'surely there's a cheaper but just as great hair dresser out there'.
No. Tried New Hair a couple of times, and quit when they absolutely ruined my hair. Went to Robi Mac on TT recommendations and ... well, his cut was ok, but the highlights he did for me looked like I had done them myself -- 120 euros was a bit much for that quality of work.
Went back to VS last week, my hair looks gorgeous again. If you ask me, it's the place to go to if you don't mind the price for a guaranteed-wonderful cut and color.

Here are the particulars for my guy. I went for the 3rd time yesterday and think the world of him. The second time, I negotiated a fair price with him for cut, color and conditioning treatment. Told him he would need to come down on his prices a little in order for me to use him every time. He did. His English is OK if that is a concern.

Hi all,
I have been to Graham & Graham and was very pleased with my hair cut by David. I was a bit disappointed about the highlights though which were not done by David. I used to go to "Molotow" in Schwabing before and they are using a great technique for highlights so the roots are actually covered in colour too ;o) Do you know what kind of technique they use in "El Corte"? At "Molotow" they are using cling film for the highlights and do every single hair and not just a few pieces with tin foil. Your recommondations sound very good and I would like to book my next appointment at El Corte.

So I have a problem. I went to a salon today (super cut) for a color and cut. It turned out terrible. They said when my hair dried the roots would be lighter. well, the dye they put on my hair is uneven and not near to what i want. and is discolored my blonde hair. the cut is also terrible. I saw the end results as soon as i got home and dried and straightened my hair. Do salons give refunds for shit jobs? i don't want them to have my money after messing my hair up especially when I will have to spend even more to get it fixed. >:(

Come on, you must be able to figure this one out for yourself. There is a chance that the salon in question may offer you a voucher or some money off but it entirely depends on the place in question. You need to ask them. People can offer as many anecdotes as they want but they will not be able to offer an answer to your specific question.
Ah, you're from California, it all becomes clear. Tis a conspiracy I reckon, or at least the forming of a very definite pattern. Golly gosh, I wonder if this is actually how stereotypes are born.

^^ i am going to go talk to them today.
The lady was not a trainee. She said she has been doing hair for 13 yrs. When it was wet the color and cut looked far better than when it was dried. lesson learned, don't trust her.
She ensured me when the my hair was dry the color would blend more and be lighter. I decided to go home and dry it there. I have the receipt. Maybe I will go check out adrenalin to get my hair fixed up.

Hi - just wondering if Adrenalin is a very punk style hairdressers or is it just very modern. I had a look at their website which certainly makes them look a bit unusual? Just wondering if my 17 year old (and very difficult as far as her hair is concerned) would like it.

A bit of a late reply, but, I went to Adrenalin and had my hair cut there. I believe the stylists can handle modern to punk. They have loads of color products for punk styles, but they were styling an older lady when I was there, and she looked great. She looked modern. I must say, though, that they smoke cigarettes in the salon, which was a bit of a jolt for me b/c I had never encountered that before (ever). They do offer full-service styling... shampoo, cut, & styling. The prices were reasonable, too.
The stylists were friendly and very sociable.

http://www.lesalon-muenchen.de/I went to this salon last week after a friend recommended it. I was really impressed. My stylist was Steffi and I WILL be going back for sure. Granted not the cheapest place but then in my experience, what you pay for is what you get. And I have had some REALLY dodgy colour experiences in Germany! I paid 148 Euros for highlights, wash, cut and blowdry but for 3.5 hours work well worth it, my hair is challenging to say the least.
