I was thinking of subscribing to premiere by cable.
I see in their homepage that they transmit some movies in the original language (that must mean English for a lot of movied).
I called them and asked them how many programs they have in English. the guy spoke very poor English, but said that some of the programs are in English and that you can choose which language you prefer to see the program in.
My question is: Does anybody have a subscription with Premiere? Do they have the Discovery Channel in English?
Please i need some feedback on this. I am thinking of getting cable and i want to choose if Premiere has a vast range of programs in English.
(i am looking at Premiere because they seem to be the only ones that offer Soccer on demand from Spain, England, Italy etc.)

The films on Premiere 1, 2, 3, 4 and MGM are all broadcast in German or in the original language at the press of a button. Don't think they have the discovery channel in english (may be wrong), but they do have national geographic in english.

It's not enough to know if there's English language movies - you also need to know if they show something you like. Count one point for each item you love from the following lists:

Favorite action stars
 • Steven Seagal
 • Wesley Snipes
 • Charles Bronson
Favorite drama stars
 • Jennifer Lopez
 • Ben Affleck
Favorite romance stars
 • Jennifer Lopez
 • Ben Affleck
Favorite movie genre
 • Horror: bloody
 • Horror: low-budget
 • Horror: stupid
 • Western: C-list actors
 • Comedy: teenage, pre-teen
You really, really enjoy...
 • Movies from 2 years ago
 • Movies from 5 years ago
 • Movies from 10 years ago
 • Talking pictures no one's heard of
You want to watch the same movie...
 • 5 times a week
 • 25 times a month
 • until I can completely do a voice-over for the film
Your score:

1 to 4 - Get it
5 or more - Don't wait, get it tonight.

Hmmmm, good point!

Thank you guys for the feedback! Now I have a little more ground for my decision! Thanks!

Yes, good point, the movies do tend to be utter shite and repeated endlessly. you could always line that git Murdoch's pockets? (although I'm not sure that Sky is any better)

I do not have a subscription to Premiere...but do use Premiere Flex 'pay as you go' for the English football.

The reason being that all the packages that have the English sound option are premium channels on Premiere which means you must first pay for a standard package (mainly German) and then the premium package on top.
Standard channel costs €9.99/month. Premium the same price. So just under €20/month based on a 24 month subscription.

Premiere Flex is a prepaid voucher (€ 25, € 50 or € 75) and you can buy any package (standard or premium) for a month at €20 per package.

Those packages that show English:
Premiere Blockbuster: most movies shown in English;
Premiere Fussball: only for English Premier League and matches (that feature English/Scottish teams) in Champions League. Spanish games are in German/Spanish,etc.
Premiere HD: Movies and series offered in German/English.

Premiere Direkt: pay as you go movies. €3 per movie.

If you want to check what shows are in Original Version you can check the Premiere TV Guide
Any programmes/movies with Zweikanalton
are in German/Original Version.

Lastly, if you want to watch English TV on cable it might be worthwhile taking a look at Kabel Digital Englisch - if they cover Berlin.

EDIT: I think there are some cable providers (not Kabel Deutschland) that have started to offer Premiere packages, so you maybe able to subscribe directly to a premium package, but not sure about this.

IT ALSO HAS NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, AND AXN, SOME OF THE KIDS STATIONS CARTOON NETWORK AND BOOMERANG AND I ALSO HAVE E! ( E ENTERTAINMENT) THE BBC AND FASHION NETWORK,

These channels are offered by your local cable provider and not Premiere. (AXN is now part of Premier Star package but do not think it is available in English).
Though some cable providers have started to offer Premiere packages, so you do not need 2 smartcards.

AXN is through cable for us, although the cable english channels are utter rubbish too

I don't know what's happened in the past few years, but back in 2004 I tried Premiere cable. I found out that my local cable company did NOT transmit every Zweikanalton as listed in the Premiere tv guide. I ended up spending enormous amounts of time with both Premiere customer service and the local cable company until finally I had it confirmed that I wasn't able to get the English and was stuck with German only on most of the TV channels. Movies had the zweikanalton but regular shows didn't.

Just thought you might want to double check that you don't end up with the same difficulties.

Trying to cancel Premiere later was another nightmare, but that's for another story.

Thanks! I will check things out. I bought a flat screen TV and I want to be able to enjoy watching programs where I understand what they are saying. thanks!

So I didn't see a final response on Discovery channel in English, yes or no?
Wibble
No it's dubbed. As is Animal Planet. Also channels like ESPN, Boomerang and National Geographic are only available if you have Premiere over satellite. If you go over cable the Premiere Star packet is not available.

Premiere Star: 18 Lieblingssender für jede Leidenschaft (für Sat-Empfang)

Also channels like ESPN, Boomerang and National Geographic are only available if you have Premiere over satellite.

But are available in English over cable (DVB-C) with the likes of Kabel Deutschland and KMS (in Munich).

Yes, I do and no, it isn't. Discovery Channel (and Animal Planet and the History channel) are all dubbed over in German with the English going in the background - very annoying.
