At last I have finally registerd after using this sight for over a year! It has already proved really useful. Has anyone has been through the wonderful process of house buying in Germany? We have finally found a house we want to buy and are aware we need an English/German speaking notary (as my German is still pretty useless). We are in the Rosengarten, Harburg (south Hamburg) area. Any recommendations or general advice, what to or not to do? Thanks in advance

My German is also crap so I used Dr Bredthauer from Notariat am Gansemarkt. Speaks perfect English and was more that happy to go through the process in two languages.

Hello, I'm in the process of getting a German drivers license and need to notarize a form and would like to know if anyone knows where to go. I would defiantly prefer someone who spoke English. If you have any advice let me know.
Thanks
Ryan

Adac can help with the license conversion, and the us embassy does notary's as well.

Tor i right, it is easy, but it also depends what state you come from. I paid €70 and i was able to pick it up a week later...where as my friend from Vermont has to take a written test, and a road test, and hire a car, and all this other stuff.
So just go the the Verkehrsamt and ask them.

For my state (Missouri) I need to take the written test but he major problem is that my drivers license doesn't show when I got my license only when it expires and they want proof that I've had it for more than 4 years. To get this from to prove I've had it for 4 years I have to fill out another form and have it notarized.
Thanks for the help and if there is something I dont know that they ladies at the tiv didn't tell me I've taking all suggestions.

Hello!
I need a document notarized. Where can I find a notary public in Hamburg, preferably in either Othmarschen or Altona?
Also, how much do you normally pay for such a service? Thanks!

Googling "notar Hamburg" or "Altona" brings up many results - they appear mostly in the centre of Hamburg.

Most people on TT DO NOT have access to "SEARCH ENGINE GOOGLE", hence ALL the posts!!

I've used this guy a few times in the past:

Just 2 minute walk from the Altona bahnhof. Depending on what the documents are you may need an appointment. I forget what the price was, wasn't much, around €15 or €20.

I need to be a foreign (American) document notarized. I'm wanting just my name notarized...not the content of the document. Does anyone know where I can find a notary that will do this and not charge a lot of money? I called the notary who someone suggested earlier who was located in Altona but the lady who answered the phone did not speak English and my German is VERY limiting. I have to get this document notarized and returned to the states this Friday.
