Hullo,

I know there have been enough questions asked about extending or overstaying a visa in Germany and I have gone thru these posts but haven't come up with an answer for my problem. The problem, is that my girlfriend plans to visit me from India and she has been granted a short stay tourist visa for 14 days which she originally requested, but now she would like to stay for longer since she has a longer vacation at work and needs to extend this visa for another 15 days. I would like to know the procedure to do the same and the chances of this happening once she is here? I wouldn't want her to take a risk and overstay the visa... Any help would be gladly appreciated.

Hello Hakhil,
I would like to give some idea about ur problem. Short stay visa or the schengen visa is the one offered to people who like to visit Germany for a short period of time. Did your friend apply specificly for 14 days or she has applied for a schengen visa valid for 3 months?. If she had applied for only 14 days, the terms and conditions of this visa can be clarified with the agency in India through which she applied for visa to germany. They can tell whether it could be extended in Germany or not. If it is a tourist visa or properly called Schengen visa which is usually given for 3 moths, it cannot be extended to stay longer in Germany. If she does not hold a Schengen or any conditional visa, visa extension is possible after 3 months. For example, a family reunion visa or work visa which is issued for 3 month's stay in Germany initially when we leave India, such visas could be extended after arriving Germany for the required number of months. But a tourist visa, as far as my knowledge goes cannot be extended. The 'valid until' coulmn in the visa paper which is stuck in the passport will tell you how long she could stay here. It is a good idea to go to the Ausländerburo of your city and enquire them whether extension is possible. Visa matters are handled differently in different cities which I learnt from my stay. Visa paper has different terms in it and these terms have different conditions which we can know only when we talk to people in the Ausladerburo. Your friend could send you a scanned copy of her visa which you can take to the ausländerburo and get it cleared.I hope some people do speak English or I think you might speak German as well.
