I've got a fanatical Beatles fan coming to visit me in late January and was wondering if there is any cool Beatles-related stuff (museums, clubs, shows, etc.) for him to see while he is here. Any information or recommendations will be appreciated!

I am no aficionado but there are several bars around Hamburg's Reeperbahn that claim to have hosted the Beetles. There is a walking tour details at http://beatlestour.de/ One great venue (on the tour) is a bar called "Große Freiheit 36". Not much of a museum, but there is Beetles memorabilia spread around. Check out their line up & see a show if you can. http://www.grossefreiheit36.de/ I remember something about the Beetles at the Hamburg Museum, but I have never been. Good Luck smile.gif

Where you should take him to is that superb model railway in the Speicherstadt: http://www.miniatur-wunderland.de

Get hold of the Thomas Cook CitySpot Guide to Hamburg (they've got a copy of it at the main library, Hühnerposten) - as I recall, it's got a double-page spread on the Beatles in Hamburg. Off the top of my head I'd have to say a walk through St Pauli (Freiheit - I think there's a plaque there somewhere saying *Beatles played here* - then there's the ex-Bambi (?) cinema round the corner where they stayed (the building's still standing, but it's no longer a cinema) and the square off the Reeperbahn that's going to house a Beatles memorial - or is it there already?) The exhibition in the Hamburg Museum was only temporary (sigh)...

When I was in Hamburg at the start of this year I found the Beatles Guide Hamburg in the big Thalia bookstore overlooking the Binnenalster. It looked like a pretty good book to have on hand for a walking tour through all the Beatles-related sites.

Halfway up grosse Freiheit on the left (walking away from the reeperbahn) is a plaque on the wall showing where the Star Club used to be.
It's a thai whorehouse now (so I'm told smile.gif)

just to complete the answers...

there s the st.pauli museum at Hein Hoyer Straße 56, TEL: 040-439 20 80
you'll find some beatles stuff there
and at the hamburg-museum, holstenwall 1
online you can try http://beatlestour.de/

if you like to be on the beatles imprints in hamburg, go to:
davidstraße, friseur (haircutter) Salon Harry - where the beatles got the special style (old fotos in the window)
indra (bar) at große freiheit 64, where the beatles played first
große freiheit 36, disco, outside two of the original stars (lights, yellow) of the legendary star-club (was located opposite)
rosis bar, hamburger berg , the son (owner) of rosi (former boss) is the son of tony sheridan, cool place, by the way!

that is it for the moment, coming back with more, if it gets to my mind

If you're lucky, you can meet Astrid Kirchherr at Kemp's English Pub in Mittelweg. She was Stuart Sutcliffe's girlfriend, cut his hair, is famous for her Beatles photos - and of those you can find a lot in that cosy little pub.

She works behind the bar in Kemp's (at least when I was there last time she was still working).
I think Kemps's owner Gibson Kemp was Ringo's successor with Rory Storm's band.
