Showering in the evening and not in the morning

A typical German habit? When do you shower?

I sweat in winter! And im not a sweaty person! under all those warm winter clothes layers in munich your armpits can get quite warm! And then going into buildings with all the heating on can be warm too!

Schotte, you are a smart cookie, how did you find out so quickly?

By the way: the water that is used for showering, watering your garden, washing your clothes and your car etc has been converted from "raw water" to drinking water, an expensive process that involves complicated and energy consuming water treatment plants.

It's like saying: yeah well, if I don't fill up my car, what will they do with the gas? Package it up and deliver to Africa? :huh"

As I said, very smart...

I thought bath and shower and toilet water was different from drinking water?
Schotte
i wouldnt know about watering my garden as there is a hose pipe ban, despite being the wettest country in europe.

its nothing like "gas" or petrol as i will call it, its just water!!!

plus im pretty sure they dont have as many cars per head of population in africa either, hence not as much demand

Not in my house it isn't. There's one pipe comes into the house and that feeds everything. But using water is not the same as using petrol, the water is still there, it needs cleaning but it hasn't dissappeared, unlike petrol, once you've used that it's gone.

Oh yeah? So you shower only ice-cold? It's not about saving water, it's about saving the energy needed to warm it up. I think many in this thread have forsaken the right to bitch about "the Americans destroying world climate with their SUVs" and such similar rantisms.
Schotte
yes, yes i do.

I think all Scots people shower in cold water. There's a shower maker MIRA who seem to specialise in this...

ceogero : Taking a shower too often is not only an unhealthy habit because the soap or detergent destroys the natural protective layer which mother nature puts there, it is also a gross misuse of our natural resources and one of many reasons for global warming, like taking your car to work or fly Ryan Air.

Whoa maen...what the heck was that?!?!?

ceogero : how would anybody perspire in winter unless they go to a sauna?

I perspire by biking, playing badminton and sundry other sports...dont u?!?! rolleyes.gif

Well, Germany has one of the best recycling facilities...The amount of water u spend is the amount of water that has to be recycled or used for any other purpose...Its like garbage...So, for example when u use 1 gallon of water, its like you are spending for 2 gallons of water...!
Be it woteva, i dont care as far as i stay clean and fresh and dont stink..and i dont think that u can save water and dispatch it to africa..hmm..! wink.gif

Well, in our house, toilet water is rain water collected in big underground tank which is then filtered before being used to flush the toilets. Drinking water and showering water is something else.

And, showering just once a week - OK, that is gross. Even if you do not sweat, bacteria builds up on your body within a couple of days - and it's that bacteria that stinks.

Other ways to sweat in winter: sauna, working out in the gym, skiing, riding your bike to work, being sick and having a fever, having dumb ass coworkers who crank the heat up so high in winter that you normally would need the AC if it were summer. etc.

what showering? Why do you think French invented the perfume?
fRe4k
Well, this topic reminded me of one ad/werbung on the telly...!

A guy is walking down the street and there's this burglar who comes from behind and shouts "hands up..!"...The other guy turns and lifts both of his hands...The next moment, the burglar faints because the other guy stunk him to death..!

Guys, who all wanna be this powerful should learn from this and stop takin' a shower and scare the shit outta others...! wink.gif

Hutcho, that sounds a bit obsessive. Are you a germ-a-phobe? Maybe you sweat a lot on your job but I don't.

I'm definitely not a germ-a-phobe. I have just always showered twice a day, and assumed most other people would as well. Maybe it's because I'm from Australia where you sweat like hell for about 10 months of the year.

Either way, you'd think it would make more sense, if you're only going to shower once a day, that you make that one time at night after the day, rather than after sleeping where you're not going to get dirty/sweaty..

I shower in the morning and get dirty in the evening.

Or vice versa. I can be flexible. wink.gif
Jeeves
It's after I've been flexible that I most need a shower.

I generally take two a day, but almost as generally without soap or shower gel, just water.
If I have time for only one, then in the evenings after the sweat and toil of the day. So maybe I'm a closet German.
Sin
One wonders at your *cough* flexibility, Mr. Jeeves.

The mother of my ex showers twice a week... and washes her hair once a month!!!
osmachar
What??? A bit extreme...

But does she do it in the morning or evening?
alimess
Good question, well depends really but I think that in her case it does not really matter...

But does she do it in the morning or evening?

Mind you, in the olden days, people only had a jug of water, a bowl, a bar of soap and a cloth to wash and they used to do physical sweaty work in factories and on fields - bath was only once a week or special occasions...and many people in less developed countries still do just this.

Glad someone invented a shower though...
GreenTea
Reminds me of my childhood - northern England in the sixties. OK, it wasn't quite that bad - we did have a bathtub with running water. But a shower contraption was unheard of. Bathtime was once a week on Sundays, and if you wanted hot water on tap, you had ter go out to t'coal shed an' fetch coal an' light a fire in t'fireplace in t'front room, so as ter heat up t'boiler. It wur alreet in t'winter when yer 'ad a roarin' fire goin' anyroad, but it wur blummin' 'ot in t'summer!

Aye, but we wur 'appy.
