Using a UK-bought plasma or LCD TV in Germany

Or vice versa, will it work?

Hi. I have got my UK SKY PLUS (digital) working here in Germany. I am currently watching it on a standard tube TV from Uk that I bought years ago...so now I want to buy an LCD TV here in Germany to watch it on. My question is: Will I be able to receive the English digital signals on a German LCD/PLASMA TV (I know you cant get regular non digital German TV on an English set and visa versa due to frequencies or something) or should i buy a LCD TV in UK and bring it over here as that should work (shouldnt it)? HELP!!!

ANY German TV with a SCART input will work fine with your Sky Hardware. I can't think of any TV that doesn't have at least one SCART these days, even the cheapest ones. If you are considering upgrading to SkyHD in the future be sure your new TV is "HD Ready" (not "HD Compatible") and has one or more HDMI connections for the SkyHD service.

So what you are saying is that YES I can go and get me a big old LCD TV from Mediamarkt/Saturn knowing that it will work here in Germany?
Also - will it work back in UK when we go back???

I don't think I could make it any clearer that you can...

The answer here is "maybe". It will continue to work with your Sky service if you take that will you, and it might work for UK terrestrial TV. Most newer (or better) TVs are multi-PAL so will work in both countries. You can check this by asking the salesman or checking the specifications. The German analogue TV standard is "PAL B/G", the UK one is "PAL-I" - if PAL-I compatibility is indicated in the specifications then it'll be fine for analogue TV reception in the UK. If your chosen TV also includes digital terrestrial reception ("DVB-T") then it will also be good for the Freeview services in the UK
