German HD TV channels

Do the main broadcasters do HD programs?

I have kabel deutschland, and a digital receiver(not hd) and a HD telly. Now I want to get some HD programms without subscribing to premiere or sky. I was thinking if I get a hd tv receiver then I would get hd tv? Do the major tv broadcasters i.e. pro7, rtl broadcast some programms in hd? Will my idea work?
Guy
Pro7 and Sat1 broadcast the occasional film, and Premiere has (only) two dedicated channels. ARD and ZDF insist they will not do anything before 2010, because there are not enough receivers out there (missing the obvious fact that as state and advert funded public service channels they could be taking the lead in encouraging that uptake - someone needs to).

Edit: Not sure if HD is broadcast via cable, though.

The only HD channels provided by Kabel Deutschland come as part of the Permiere package (inc. Premiere HD and Discovery HD). FTA HD channels are slated to be introduced next year.

Pro7 (& Sat1) are broadcasting some series in HD eg Lost and Desperate Housewives (dubbed in German). See:

But the FAQ seems to suggest you need a satellite connection and 'HD Ready' set-top box.

Currently the only free-to-air HD channels available in Germany are those over satellite. ProSieben and Sat1 and Anixe are the only dedicated German HD channels.

That means I've got to get a satellite connection to view the HD programs broadcasted by ProSieben and Sat1? With a hd set-top box and cable I won't be able to get hd? Which means I've got to subscribe to premiere hd. If I wait a bit, I will be able to get hd over cable.

Is that correct? Thanks again yorkshire lad.

Is that correct?

No - it's utterly and completely wrong.
