Using a BT wireless DSL router in Germany

Will a British router work over here?

Sorry for another newbie question.
I have a BT wireless router and I want to know if I can bring it with me to Germany.
I need to have my wireless broadband! tongue.gif

Your Router and wireless functions will work if you change out the power plug with one for German sockets.
However if its a DSL router, the DSL Modem part will not work. If the Router requires an Ext. 3rd party
DSL Modem to work then you shouldn't have any issues.

Given that most providers offer a free or subsidised modem/router/WLAN/VoIP box when you sign up to their service, then there's no real need to bring your own as you'll get the latest, and compatible model here for next to nothing.

The DSL modem will *probably* work. Germany has a different voltage on the telephone line, but most will cope with it.

However, trying to get hold of the correct cables and a microfilter (DSL Splitter in germany) is a nightmare. Most places won't sell them - insist you go to T-com, who will only sell you one if you are an existing customer. Took me two weeks to find one, only to find I needed yet another special cable. Finally got the cable to find the phone won't work with Alice unless it's connected directly through their DSL modem.

In conclusion, yes it'll probably work, but it's not worth the hassle - stick with whatever your ISP supply you and let them take care of the problems.

Dear TT Forum reader looking for useful and correct information,

The previous posting is so incorrect, it's not worth disputing the individual aspects. Simply pretend it's not there.

Yours sincerely,
