I can't find any good live music around here.
You have
GOT to be fcuking joking. Where the hell have you been looking?
Quite apart from K4 Zentral Cafe (and Festsaal for bigger gigs) , Z-Bau, Roter Salon, Kunstverein, Stereo Club, O27 (in Fürth), Die Rakete, Hirsch, Löwensaal, MUZ-Club, Louise, and Desi (which is just the main stuff in Nuremberg and Fürth - Erlangen and the surrounding area have E-Werk, Posthorn, Weisses Ross, JUZ Feucht, JUZ Roth etc etc), all of which put on gigs from local to international, indie to punk to rock to Metal, just after you posted this there was a six-day festival with over 100 local bands, mostly rock, punk and indie in the now temporarily defunkt Dust Club. You might not be able to go to a gig
every day, but most weeks you can go to a gig four days out of seven with a choice at weekends, And thats all just stuff with guitars in - If you want Hip-Hop, RnB or elektro theres more.

I'm going to Barcelona this weekend just for the purpose to see some. Was there in June and saw The White Stripes, PJ Harvey, The Flaming Lips, Sonic Youth, Chemical Brothers and others at a music fest.
Obviously the bands have to be booked to play Nuremberg or Erlangen and there are a lot that miss us out and go straight to Munich, but the white Stripes played here last summer (RiP) and played k4 three times before that. Ive seen Sonic youth at least four times in Nuremberg, but admittedly not recently (im not at all sure theyve been to Germany at all lately) The Chemical Brothers and the Flaming lips have also been here, PJ harvey hasnt been anywhere much recently.

Anyway, I mostly play guitar and attempt songwriting. I have been playing acoustic since I have been in Germany, because I don't know where I can turn on my electric without getting evicted.
In Nuremberg we have these things call "practice rooms" (Übungsräume) which are usually in old factories or air-raid Bunkers and where you can turn your Marshall Stack up to 11 and no-one bats an eyelid apart from your ENT specialist. Mine is in the middle of town at "Frauentorgraben" in a big old bunker. If you want to get hold of one then the best first stop is the "Musikzentrale" or "MUZ" who rent out a load of rooms, most of the music shops in Nuremberg either rent out their own rooms or know someone who does, just go and ask. If you just want somewhere to go occasionally, put a small ad in "Plärrer" or "Doppelpunkt" and see if anyone wants to share or has spare space. Thats the place to put your "want to join a band" ad too.

When I play electric it is loud. I also play a bit of piano, and drums.
There is a severe shortage of drummers in Nuremberg. If you want to join a band, I can probably put you in touch with four or five who play music you would like and desperately need a drummer (my emo band is currently too long dead to be revived easily, but we would need a drummer too - If you can half-way play and like stuff like The Editors, The Killers, Interpol and The Bravery get in touch with my ex-guitarrist who is looking to put together a new project) .

I like a wide range of music - in addition to what I mentioned above, I listen to a lot of WIlco, Beck, Eagles of Death Metal, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Spoon, Pixies, Supergrass. Not much metal though. Would have loved to have seen QotSA.
Seen 'em. In Nuremberg (Eagles of Death Metal were support). Missed them the other two times they played here. The last time was November 2007. What was that about "I can't find any good live music around here"? Youre looking in the wrong places matey. Wilco play Munich if at all, ditto JSBE. I cant remember where Ive seen Supergrass, probably Munich or Cologne, Im not sure if they ever came here. Pixies never really toured here at all, they only really played festivals both in the eighties and on the re-union. On the other hand. Nirvana played here in front of 25 people on their first European tour as support for TAD. At The Drive In played K4 the first time before they broke in front of 50 people, the second time there were nearly 1000 people standing outside without tickets
Who else do you need? Nomeansno? Fugazi? Bad Religion? TV on the Radio? Slayer? Morrissey? Maximo Park? Angry Samoans? Kaiser Chiefs? Anastasia?

I have been itching to start a band doing something edgy, electric, and energetic, but also interested in doing anything musical. Drop me a note if you are interested in meeting,
I assume you know MySpace but also assume that it hasnt ocurred to you to just enter "Nürnberg" in their search engine and see how many Bands from Nuremberg have "looking for guitarist" flags up. If you want to save some time, my MySpace page is at
http://www.myspace.com/lokale_leidenschaften and although its a work in progress it aims to have as friends all bands, artists, labels and gig possibilities in the area. There are over 100 bands listed already and I remember distinctly that several have "members needed" messages up.
If you want to get in with other Americans rather than locals, get hold of my mate Doug from the very excellent "Verge", who have a posse of musical GIs who go to their gigs and can almost certainly point you in th e direction of new projects.
If the worst comes to the worst, send me a demo and Ill broadcast it and mention that youre looking for other members.
Otherwise, Iam assuming you have managed not to fall over the magazines "Plärrer", "Prinz" or "Doppelpunkt". The first two are the "TIme Outs" of Nuremberg and the third is a freebie version. All have extensive gig listings, often as far as Munich (paticularly Prinz) and all are used by local musicians to find each other via small ads. Plärrer and Prinz have online versions too. Also go to the MUZ, who can put musicians in contact with each other.
"I can't find any good live music around here"? Thats coz youre living in a hole, sonny
