Hallo zusammen!

In the beginning of April, I am moving to München to sing/play violin in two reputable ensembles (they're both on labels and have put out a bunch of recordings). Naturally, I'll need a residence permit. I talked to the consulate here in New York and they told me that all I'd need is a letter of employment from the founder of these groups (as he'd technically be my employer) stating #1 He will be hiring and #2 How much he would be paying me, as well as the other forms (application, police letter, bank statements, passport photos, etc.) The founder is more than willing to write me this letter, but I'm just not sure if I will really be approved if I proceed in this manner. The problem is that obviously as a musician, we would be making inconsistent income, so he wouldn't really be able to say how much I would be getting paid.

When I wrote to the KVR in München, they sent me an employment application as well as some other helpful materials. The application had space for work schedule, salary, and such. When I showed this to the founder, he told me that in these cases, just to write "see attached" and provide a statement stating what my intentions are and that as a musician, the schedule and pay would be inconsistent. All this makes sense to me, but I'm not sure how the KVR will see it. What I'd like to avoid is trying to apply for my residence permit as a freelancer, as according to the stories on this forum, it's REALLY hard for non EU citizens.

My other issues are with the Tax ID (which these groups may or may not have...and it would probably be easier for me if they did) and Health Insurance. When I talked to the consulate about Health Insurance, they told me not to apply for it until I knew for sure I got the residence permit...but from what I've read, it seems that you should already have it as they ask for it on the application. Also, I think I'd feel a little better knowing I'm insured as soon as I get there. What are your experiences with this? Did everyone get their insurance before entering the country?

I'd love to know your opinions on this situation. Obviously no one knows for sure if the KVR will approve me, but I figured putting this out there would help me more than not.

Viele Grüße and I hope to get acquainted with you all soon!
