Hi Toytown!

I'm having a weird problem, or maybe that's the way things work in Germany. I bought a car and insured it at the beginning of October, I went with HDI as they didn't make an issue of my previous insurance cert being in English (unlike a few others that wanted a certified translation).

I've been to check up with them 4-5 times already as I still haven't received the insurance cert and I still haven't received the bill. It's been over a month now!

I also took the car to the service 2 weeks ago and there was a small crack on the windshield which they repaired and insurance covers it, so I went back to the insurance crowd and they said that they'll pay the money straight into my bank account. I still haven't paid them a cent!

Every time I ask if I'm insured because it all sounds wrong, and every time they tell me that it's fine. Then I ask them when will I receive the bill and the rest and it's always soon. Last time, about a week ago, the clerk made a phone call to what I imagine is their head office and said that they'll have everything posted to me next day. Haven't received anything from them yet. Haven't seen the money for the windshield repair go into my bank account either, but that has only been a week.

Is this how it works in Germany?

I really can't believe that they're so laxed about money, and that I'm fully insured even though I haven't paid them anything.

I just don't know what to think now, I'm sure they find me strange after calling into their office so many times asking when will I be able to pay them?!
