Well I admit I do not particularly like the
Oktoberfest. I enjoy the
Starkbierfest much more. Hence my curiosity about which one you enjoy more...

beer to beer, starkbeer ist besser cuz it kicks you in your ass after two masses. For atomsphere,
Oktoberfest is the winner hands down.

Yep, have to agree, the problem with Starkbier, after a couple it's really time to slow down, but at the Wies'n, the atmosphere is much better, if it's not too busy, otherwise it can then just become annoying.

Starkbeerfest is ok, but really nocherburg (?sp) is not what it used to be. Now it just looks like a modern conference facility, even the tents down at Mariah Hilf platz used to have more atmosphere (or so I am told...)

I would agree with this. The new Nockerberg has absolutely no character.

Starkbier tastes crap...until the second mass.
octoberfest wins hands down because it's one of the few times that Germans really lighten up iand t's totally accepted that they will get pissed. IT's the only two weeks of the year that my work colleagues stop saying... "You English.. your always drunk! " Plus the German chicks are friendly at the fest.
One Major plus for the
Starkbierfest though...No Italians !

I agree starkbier tastes crap until the second mass, after the second mass it's quite difficult to stand straight and after the third you forget everything! nice!
I prefer the
Starkbierfest as there are far less people and you don;t have to trawl around for ages trying to get a seat, plus no italians groping the ladies!!

I don't like Starkbierfest anymore. Nockerberg is flat and boring. The last time I was there the band wasn't playing anything funner than a fast polka, and sure, there might not be as many Italians there, but everyone there is there with the expressed purpose of getting drunk. Which, as surprising as it might sound, I don't think everyone is necessarily trying to do at Oktoberfest. I've seen more people in scary drunken states at
Starkbierfest than I ever have at
Oktoberfest.

I don't think you can really compare the two festivals. I like them both but
Starkbierfest should not be reduced to Nockherberg as there are much mor places. And it is far smaller as the
Oktoberfest. Besides it is more traditional because there are not too many tourists. I agree though, that the new Nockherberg has lost a lot.

What I like of the
Starkbierfest is exactly that it is more traditional, no Italians (I do not count ), and the beer (according to my taste of course) is wonderful.
Yes, the atmosphere at the
Oktoberfest is sometimes better... but then again some-other-times I fount it next to "grotesque".
