Hi everyone,
I'm moving in the coming months to Germany, haven't decided yet where I will be staying. i'm thinking about Hannover, many friends there, nice people, very nice town.
I'm planning on starting a mom and child program based on music, play, languages, art and yoga. Since I don't know very much the region, I used to live in Munich, would you recommend Hannover to run that kind of project and to live ?
In the States, Mom and child classes are the state-of-the-art, I know as a matter of fact that german women stay home until the child is 3. Do you think that this project would be well percieved/received ?
Thank you so much for all your suggestions, reccomendations, advises
Cheers
sandra

Hello!
I actually just moved from Munich to Hannover (well a city outside of Hannover called Burgdorf). So far I really like it. It is definitely not Munich but I still like it. I can't tell how many English speaking people are in Hannover though. I have heard that there are a lot more then I think. I personally would love the type of classes you are talking about. I was in an English speaking playgroup for my girls when I was in Munich and I have not really found much or anything English speaking in Hannover yet.
If you have any questions please fire away.
Good luck with your move and whatever city you end up in.

Hi Gals / Moms
Does this offer go out to SAHD`s (Stay at home Dads)?? :-)
I am a Canadian, married to a German woman, and our daughter is now 14 months old. I have been in Germany for 8 years, in Braunschweig, but recently we built a house in Seelze (Hannover region). I would love contact with other "English" speaking families for my daughter, Freya, who is just learning to speak now. I feel it is important that she sees (and hears!) that it is not only Dad that speaks this funny language...
...of course, for any new English speaking people in the region, perhaps I can be helpful...my german has improved somewhat over the years! :-)
anywho...good day to you all.
Keep your sticks on the ice,
Anton

Hi Anton,
As it happens Hannover4EnglishSpeakers (the group you just joined

welcome!) tried to get a play group going last year, and didn't succeed -- but I've been wanting to try again for some time so that our kids (a son who's almost 4 and a daughter who's 2 1/2) have English-speaking playmates. It's becoming more acute now that the English bookshop Escape Books is closing and the Saturday book readings are probably going to stop as a result.
(Escape Books isn't closing for lack of business -- the owner got a job in Canada and is moving, so she's closing it down the end of February.

)
At any rate, if there are people interested in a weekly get-together, drop me a line.
Cheers,
Fairfax71

Hi Fairfax71,
Yes, I would be interested in meeting other parents / families for a playgroup. Since I have moved to Hannover, we have almost no contact with other families (german included) and I have been driving back to Braunschweig to visit the parents from our birthing courses! Our family definately needs contacts here both for us and our daughter. English speaking is a huge bonus!
how should we initiate contact?
Keep your stick on the ice,
Anton

Hi Anton,
Well, I just sent a message to the
H4ES mailing list about the idea -- try responding to it there and see if any buzz develops.
Toytown's nature being what it is, hopefully people will also see this message over time and starting pinging me, though it always takes some time.

Cheers,

Hello!
Sorry I have not responded quicker. I am always looking for a playgroup for my two girls. I just joined the International Women's Association which has an English playgroup. However, your wives would have to become members to join the playgroup if you were interested in that.. Even though I have joined one, I am always looking for more. My daughters are 2.5 and 10 months old. Keep me posted or let me know if you want to discuss things further.
Kind regards,
Krissyhsv96

Hi all,
Making it more or less official: The first (and hopefully not the last) Hannover4EnglishSpeakers kid's day is March 1st, 2008, at the Old Catholic parish hall, Brabeckstraße 24, Hannover-Kirchrode, at 11 am. (In spite of the venue, it will be non-religious.)
Those interested should please sign up for the
H4ES mailing list and fill out the poll there regarding attendance (you can only access the poll once you've signed up).
We would like to have this be a regular event to replace the now-defunct children's readings at Escape Books, so please try to come to the first meeting and/or sign up for the mailing list so that we can organize this longer-term.
See you there!
Cheers,
Fairfax71
