Hi everyone,
In the past few days Ive noticed my usenet downloads dropping to very slow speeds and then actually stopping and not recovering, typically at around 3-4GB worth of transfer. I recently changed from Alice deluxe flat 16mb to Alice light flat 16mb.
Torrent downloads so far seem unaffected, have also tried changing sever address with usenet provider and using ssl to no avail.
Anybody else having similar issues? advice please.

Seriously? I hope this is just a technical fault and not some lame ass restriction they are adding.

My usenet provider allows me to change my connection port to port 80. If you do that, unless they a blocking specific providers (which I find very unlikely), then they would just see it as normal web traffic. Try that and see what happens. I will check tonight to see what speeds I get. Usually I get 10mbit/s from my provider, which is basically maxing out my line.

I use usenet-news as my server provider standard port 119 and alt 443 but have tried also with ssl to no avail.
Perhaps they are capping as the light tariff was considerably cheaper for the same speed 29euro pm as apposed to 59euro??
Will try with another usenet server such as giganews but fear it is the end of good times, been reading bad stuff about torrents in the US being blocked by isps the last week coincidently.
