Best bet would be your local newspaper. Some folks might even be giving an old one away that you could fix up and get going again for real cheap. At least once a week, there's a section in the classifieds where people offer stuff for free.

There is one "Fahrrad-Gebrauchtmarkt" at the Grindelallee 161, in Hoheluft (bus 5 stop Bezirksamt), or there is always ebay, I already bought 2 great bikes via ebay.

gday there sami, ive only been here for a few months but when i first arrived i was after the same thing. after looking around i couldnt find much under 100 euros, but with the help of a local hamburgian i went to some flea markets (there are quite a few around on weekends) and found a great bike for 30euros.talked them down from 50. there were heaps there. it was a really gay color but with a can of black spray paint she looks like a beauty.
good luck and happy peddling.

Marcks in Bergedorf have a bike fleamarket every first Saturday of the month - next will be December 1st, 2007.
But you would have to get up early, Sami

...
We got our bikes there, quite cheap but good quality, not for € 30,00 though...

Hi Sami,
If you can wait a couple of weeks, the lost property office is auctioning off unclaimed bikes (*forgotten* on trains etc) on December 6th, starting 3 pm.
The address is Bahrenfelder Str. 254-260 (but the entrance is actually Gausstr. Haus 2), just around the corner from Altona Station. This is probably the cheapest legal way to acquire a bike!

debby, thank you very much for that tip! I imagine it'll be a madhouse, but since I'm looking for a decent second bike, I'll check it out.

The ADFC (German cycling club) runs sales of old bikes and accessories.
It seems similar to the UK CTC - Cyclist's Touring Club. Google for more inf.

Any idea when the next one of these is?
Totally forgot about it this time
Still quite keen on getting myself some wheels, especially for when spring eventually kicks in...

Hi,
Does anyone have any recommendations for a shop for used Bicycles?
I have just moved to HH so not that familiar with the city (nor the language yet).
Thanks!

Welcome to HH!
Most of the smaller bike shops also sell used bikes of varying quality and price. Take a bus ride and gander out the window to see which bike shops have heaps of bikes outside then get off at the next stop - that's how I found my first bike here (bus line 6).

In the Uni area where Haller Str. meets the Grindelallee
there are a number of shops specialising in used bikes.
