Howdy all,
Appolgies if this has been asked before (I have not found the answer in any of the topics yet).
I am in the middle of trying to get my 1&1 flat rate moved to Dresden. This (as i think most poeple may realise) has not proved easy and after nearly 3 weeks, we are still waitiing.
We have been told that 2,000 mb etc is the fastest speed available here is that true?
After how long (if its possible) can we just say they have failed to uphold their part of the service contract thereby giving us grounds to cancel?
And, what can we expect should we cancel/get into a legal situation with them?
Cheers for any advice.
David.

I heard lots of horror stories about trying to get DSL. I'm sorry! I had a co-worker who had been waiting for a long time as well and they agreed letting her go from the contract. I don't think it should be a problem. You should find out if it's a company problem or the availability. If it's the company try arcor or freenet (I use that myself), even though it really depends on the situation. I heard the worst stories about freenet but for us everything went smoothly. In Dresden I believe we have up to 16,000 DSL, not sure where it is provided. My parents at least just got it from the Telekom. I hope that helped a bit.

DSL availabilityon the right hand side click on Verfuegbarkeit pruefen then put in your phone number and the funny code thingy and it should tell you what DSL speed is available in your area (from Telekom at least!) Tried to write this earlier but had to rush off with daughter to casualty!!

Thanks for the replies.
Much to the annoyance of my girlfriend (after calling 1&1 4 times), 1 call from me and the net connection was active the next day.
I would like to say it was the way I dealt with the person on the other end, or the way I demonstrated my superior knowledge iof all things dsl-like.
However, having been in the room when my girlfriend called I can only say that I spoke to smeone who knew what they were doing.
I have checked the T-com site (it said it couldnt tell me if dsl was possible), Arcor (said 2000) and Alice (didnt really say what speed they could provide but gave me the usual 'upto this speed' sentence).
I know that 16000 is possible in dresden but if it is anything like Berlin, the speed will be very different in different parts of the city. As we have to wait until july to move suppliers (or gte a better offer from 1&1, stop laughing, we may as well try) we can wait a while to see what available.
If you live in Striesen don't expect any better than dial up. There's no DSL available here that I know of. I wanted a woreless coneection for my laptop so I have a cellular connection. ( Basically dial up but no cords.) the download time sucks.

w.it new bb umts you can get 3 or maybe even dsl 7
Thought about that electrical outlet thingie, but I'm moving to Neustadt next month..hehe..NOT just for the DSL but that's a very BIG advantage to living there !I am getting about 40 kbps here from Base E-Plus and trying to find a way to break the 2 year contract now. I have had it for a year and it's a flat rate (30 euro) but if you can't download anything~ INCLUDING web pages..what's the point?? Unfortunately I don't know enough German to argue my case..

I went down to T-com and my new place in the outer Neudstadt can get VDSL up to 50MB. DSL though only 3MB he said so my network engineer side of me is a bit suspicious.
