Christmas Cookie ExchangeHi to all you bakers and Christmas and Holiday enthusiasts.
Back home, every year at the beginning of December, my friends and I got together and had a Christmas Cookie Exchange. I thought it might be fun to carry on the tradition this year here in Hamburg.
The way this works is everyone bakes their favourite holiday treat and then we get together and fill up our containers with a few of each person’s cookies. This gives everyone a chance to have a nice variety of holiday cookies to offer their guest (or eat themselves

) during the Holiday season and a good chance to meet up with friends before the big rush.
If you are interested, I would like to host it on Tuesday the 11th of December, (could be day or evening depending on every one's availability ) keep in mind that you need time to bake cookies (which is why I have chosen a week night as it won’t be fun for you, if you are baking and feeling stressed out to get to the party the same day).
Here is my guideline.
1. All cookies must be homemade and preferably a special holiday cookie.
2. Please bring at least 2 dozen (but only of one type of cookie)
3. R.S.V.P as soon as possible so I know whom to expect.
I will be serving some horderves and festive drinks to get us all in the holiday spirit.
If you are interested and have any questions about this, please just ask.
Cheers,
Steph

That's a great idea. Why must it happen when I'm moving away from Hamburg?!

Steph,
I will be there with bells on!

Ps. Am I allowed to bring my husband the cookie monster? He might eat all the cookies...

Pps. Maybe you should wait to see how many people RSVP before you say how many dozen cookies to bring. We might need a lot more!

For those who are interested, please be advised that I have now changed the date to Tuesday December 18th.

Steph,
What time do you think you'll have it? I just realized I leave for the states the next morning at 9 am (airport by 7)! I want to come but I don't want to stay out at all late. Any chance we can have it early afternoon or move it to Monday the 17th instead?

My friend Mollyoaf wants to come.

@ Everyone: Steph has decided not to move the date of the party as per my above question, so see you all there on the 18th!

If it's in the evening, I'd like to come. But don't know yet if I can get in at another painting class (which is on Tuesdays, am on the waiting list), will only know that in abt. three weeks.
So can't commit yet.

Since the majority of people seem to be available in the evening, I think that between 7 and 9pm will be the time. It won't be a late night for those of you who work or travel the next day. Like I said in my post earlier, I will have some munchies and we can all have a drink

to toast each other a Merry Holiday.

Mat and I will be there.
I managed to get in on another painting class, but that will be on Wednesdays, so 18th no problem.
Of course we will bring one type of biscuits each

edit: maybe everybody should also bring a few printed copies of his recipe? Just in case others woul like it...?

@Hammonia, I think that's a great idea!

Der Englander...of course you are welcome to come too...just remember you have to bring two dozen "home made" cookies. The Cookie Monster's reputation reaches to German

...and you should be advised, there will be another Cookie Monster at the party...if things are to out of control...I might be forced to call in Snuffleupugus for back up!

I used to do this too - suggested it at my son's german school but the idea fizzled...
We used to also bring copies (half page) of our recipes - punched holes, added a cover sheet and threaded with a ribbon - everyone went home with a tin of asst. cookies and a recipe booklet.

I like the idea of making a little recipe book. I've got lots of ribbon and red paper. Anyone have a hole punch?

Update:
Hello all. I was asked again about moving the date of the cookie party and the only other date that would work for me would be Sunday the 16th. I would only move the date if everyone who has already confirmed that they are coming, can make the change, other wise we will stick to Tuesday the 18th.
If you would like to bring the recipe with you, that would be great...or alternatively, if everyone wanted to email me their recipes, I could put together a little booklet for each person to take home with all the recipes in it. (by the way Marymanu - I believe I have a hole punch)
Can you please confirm if you are coming. Thanks
Stephanie

Steph0313 if its the 16th (Sunday) I might make it but I def. can't make a Tuesday night (too far and too late a night). Need to know some more details though as would be coming by train and that might make it awkward. Can you pm me again? :-)

Hola,
The feed back I have received is that the 16th is the optimum date. So here it is...no more changes

(promise) Sunday the 16th @ 2pm.
I am really looking forward to this and hope that this date and time works for everyone. I realize that some of you might not be able to come now, but I am trying to go with what works for the majority and fits into my schedule.
I will PM any of you who don't already know my address with the details of the directions.
Happy Baking Folks. Can't wait to see all the wonderful cookies (okay taste!

)

As I emailed you, we can only let you know on short notice if we can make that date, depending on Mat's rehearsals.

Sorry, should have posted last week already.
We're having friends coming over from Manchester this weekend, thought their flight back was in the afternoon, but it actually is in the evening, so we definitely both cannot make it to the cookie exchange, booh.
