Hello all!
I thought this thread might interest people here in the Hamburg area, or at least I could get something out of it. smile.gif
I play accordion, but I didn't bring it with me out of fear of the way the airline would handle it and because it would cost more than what I payed for it to bring it here and back.
My question is, are there any stores in Hamburg where one can rent accordions/instruments or places where one could buy used accordions/instruments? I searched quite a bit on the internet and couldn't find anything. Thanks!

Hey, Jake, what are they charging for bringing an accordion over these days?!? Can you not bring it as a carry-on?

I'm a harpist. I think I paid about 125 Euro or so each way US-Germany to ship my large harp as extra luggage on my flights. Unless you're in Germany a year or less, I just can't imagine it would be worth renting an accordion instead of shipping your own. (I'm guessing you would pay about 30 Euro a month to rent one, if you can find a place that does that.)

Um, yeah, I am only here for 10 months as an exchange student. biggrin.gif

Good luck, then. I'd imagine you might have more luck renting an accordion in Bavaria than Hamburg, but don't forget to post back if you do find a place to rent one.

I'm a harpist.

I remember Peter Knight telling the story of how he introduced an instrumental piece composed by a harpist from Ireland & afterwards a guy came up and asked "what was that piece composed by a drunken Irish guy?"

I shipped my guitar as oversized baggage for free. After I dropped it off, they threw stickers on it saying Fragile (not that it made a difference), but when I picked it up it was in the same condition i left it in.
I saw a music store on, I think, it was Bahrenfelder Str. Just go in and ask everywhere.

The tune was probably "Carolan's Receipt," written by a grateful Turlough O'Carolan for a doctor who advised him to take up whiskey again, after he had been advised previously to quit drinking.

Actually it was "Si Begh Si Mhor" off the album "They Called her Babylon" - but the story could well apply to other pieces...
