Hello Ladies,
A couple of us from Toytown have been talking at different TT events about getting together once or twice a month to play games like Mah Jong, Wizard, card games, Scrabble, or whatever else is fun! We've gotten together a few times now for games, snacks, wine, and some girl talk. However it's been difficult keeping it as a regular thing because it's hard to coordinate with everyone's schedules. We finally decided we should put it up online and see if anyone else is interested! For now it seems the days that people are available are Wednesday nights and Saturday afternoons. Anybody interested? We've mostly hosted Girls Game Night ourselves at each person's house but were thinking of having it at a centrally located cafe like Cafe May in Eimsbuettel. So, ladies, tell us what you think?

As said on the bookswapping meeting - whenever I can, I'll be in. Just have a lot going on at the moment.
But Saturday afternoons generally don't work for me - I don't really fancy a game AFTERNOON to be honest, and usually also don't have the time on Saturday afternoons, normally going out in the evenings...
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday are generally OK.
I would suggest to take turns with the weekdays, so that somebody who e.g. has sth on every Wednesday can still join if it's on another weekday.
Maybe something like every 1st Tuesday of the month and every 3rd Wednesday of the month would be viable?
Just my twopence.

I am always up for a boardgame or card games. I especially love poker.
No particular time is bad for me, it changes daily, so whenever everyone else is available I should be able to make it work out.
Cheers.

I like this idea, in theory

Although I must confess I don't actually know how to play many board/card games, I'm always happy to learn.. and even more happy to have an excuse to chill out and chat with some nice people! Bren

Unfortunately I work almost every evening so those nights are out for me, but that doesn't mean you guys can't get together without me! I'm mostly up for Friday nights or Saturday afternoons, if anyone is interested.

What if we have a game one week night a month and one weekend a month...would that suit? Maybe something like the second Saturday of every month and the 4 Monday or Tuesday...I am pretty flexible so I will go with majority rules, but I really would like to get this up and running.

Ooooh, I love board games. I'm so there!
By the way - my personal favorites are Outburst, Pictionary and UNO cards.

Since we have a few interested, should we start the ball rolling? How about we have our first game next week? Could be an evening or a Saturday...what works for the majority?
marymanu
Nov 8 2007, 12:06 pm
When shall we have the first one? Monday or Wednesday night would work for me depending on where the game night was located and what time it started. As a suggestion, how about Wednesday night (14. Nov) at 7 pm. I'd be happy to host it at my place in Eimsbuettel if it's less than 6 people interested. More and we'd have to go to Cafe May, a great place a few blocks away in between the Osterstrasse U Bahn and the Langenfelde S Bahn.
Any takers?

I think Wed 14th might be OK for me, depending on what time you start and I have to check on one other thing first.
But generally I'm interested.

Dang, I just started yoga classes, and they are on... you've guessed it, a Wednesday! By all means go ahead without me, I'm sure there'll be another games night I can make in the future

@Payola: We'll have to see how many people are coming. If it's a lot, we might have it at the cafe and bringing our own munchies would be a no-no (and a shame considering how good the munchies are at Cafe May!)

i won't be here then.. I'll be in England! and then not long after that I have to go back to the states for a while.
I'm sorry I'll miss it, but I will be coming back... eventually.

Have fun!

Raabbott, sorry we'll miss you. Have fun in England.
Okay, I've gotten some replies from friends not on Toytown, and three others are interested in coming, so I think we should definitely have it at the cafe. Let's say Cafe May at 7 pm. I'll call and reserve a couple tables. We can get snacks, cake and drinks there.

What games do we want to play? With so many we might need to split up into groups but this is okay. We could play cards, poker, Siedler, Wizard, Mah Jong, etc.

I have a dumb question about Mah Johg. I've only played it on a computer, and I'm not sure I'm even playing it correctly. I just match tiles and they disappear. Sometimes I complete the puzzle, sometimes I don't. Is the live game the same? If not, is it possible to learn the rules in a few minutes - or do I need time to figure it out?
marymanu
Nov 11 2007, 2:41 am
It is actually quite complicated and takes awhile to learn but you can have cheat sheets on scoring, etc. My favorite thing to play at the coffee shop is cards because they are so easily portable and you can play and have a conversation at the same time. But, MJ is fun too. Why don't we have a vote: what does everyone want to play?
Steph0313
Nov 11 2007, 8:29 am
I like cards too...as most games are variations of other games and it's easy to pick up new games. And I agree with Marymanu that cards are the easiest to transport.
I know a few games that are easy to teach and fun...Wizard and Bitch are both games that are not to difficult to play.
Looking forward to Wednesday.

Hope you had lots of fun girls!
Sorry I couldn't be there - we're having dinner for 10 at our place on Saturday and had to do the shopping yesterday - after a crazy day at work and the shopping I just wanted to stay on the sofa...

When's next time?
marymanu
Nov 15 2007, 10:46 am
Last night was fun. There were five of us and we played a card game called Bitch while drinking coffee and eating free cake (they put out free cakes and pastries after a certain point.) Some of us even had a glass of wine...
We want to have another meet-up soon! Maybe even next week. Most of the people who showed up last night have afternoons free so we were talking about maybe meeting for lunch sometime. Saturday was also talked about. We'd like to meet next time at a cafe by S Altona on Ottensenhauptstrasse. It's a lovely place with upstairs and downstairs seating and a travel agency in the corner. They serve nice drinks, breakfast and sushi. Does anyone know the name?
Ladies, please write in with proposed times and dates for meeting up. I know some of you work and can't make a weekday lunch date.
@Hammonia - if we had a weekday lunch date someplace near your work, any chance you could meet up on your lunch break or would that be pushing it?
Steph0313
Nov 15 2007, 12:28 pm
I will be at the Cafe in question tomorrow, so I will get the details and phone number so we can reserve. I propose next Thursday at 1:30 if that works for anyone.
Looking forward to hooking up again...it's great hanging with the girls!
Pjaggi - sorry you didn't make it last night, we would have liked to meet you...hope you can come next time.
Payoladl- pleasure meeting you last night and hope you will join us again next week.
Anyone else who want to come a long...just look for a table that has a deck of cards on it...that will be our way of letting you know this is the "Game Girls" from Toytown.
C U soon

For me lunchtime would only work for a quick lunch, can leave office for abt. 1 hour between 12 and 14 h.
As I'm working near Rathausmarkt: if you ever meet around there, I'll be in (Restaurant Parlament is quite nice... or maybe for a Glühwein at the Christmasmarket some time after 26.11.???)
Evenings next two weeks are pretty much booked, but please keep on posting, I'm still hoping tome make it eventually.

Since we are doing an afternoon this week, most likely our next meet-up will be an evening one. Do you have a suggestion on a certain night? Someplace you like to meet up?

Hi. I'm actually quite easy about where to meet up, although I would be there about 7.30pm because my partner gets in at 7pm. I have a friend over tomorrow til Sunday so next week would be fab, if you are free? x

Thursday evening next week would be best for me, but I could probably also do Wednesday evening. Anyone have a suggestion on where to meet this time?
Three of us showed up at Cafe Reise Bar yesterday and we decided it would be fun to host the game meet up in a different location each time in order to check out new cafes and places to meet up. So, suggestions welcome, ladies.
Steph0313
Nov 23 2007, 11:40 am
Any night works for me...my only request is we try and keep the location fairly simple to reach from S-Bahn/U-Bahn. I can be directionally challenged

at the best of times. Also as the cold, rainy weather is going to start picking up, the least amount of time wondering around in it, the happier I am (I know I am a bit of a baby!!

)
Look forward to next week.

Thursday works for me. Have we decided on a location? I know that there are a few Starbucks around Jungfernstieg, but I don't know if they will work for games.
marymanu
Nov 27 2007, 12:32 pm
I've invited a number of ladies not on Toytown but haven't heard back from anyone yet. We haven't decided on a location. Goodlife recommended Cup & Cino which is downtown near U Gaensemarkt and S Stephansplatz (I think.) I've been there once and it was okay, but it's a big place so that might be good for a group.
marymanu
Nov 28 2007, 12:16 pm
Okay, since nobody has specified a preference, I am going to make an executive decision and say the next meeting will be:
Cup & Cino
Colonnaden 41 (Closest train stations are U Stephansplatz, U Gaensemarkt, or S Jungfernstieg)
7:00 pm
Look for a group of girls with a pack of cards on the table. If you are thinking of coming, please let us know so I can figure out how big of a table to get. See you there!
