Hi Girls,
Since nobody else is coming I guess games night is canceled tonight. We'll have to talk about the next time we want to meet up. Not sure if I am available next week although you can certainly meet up without me.

Hello All,
After speaking with some of the others we've decided that perhaps this time of year is too busy and that we should start having meetups again after the new year. I'm surprised we haven't gotten more interest in this meetup considering lots of people have expressed interest when we've been at other events (like the book exchange).
Is there something we aren't offering that we could? I know everyone has busy lives, both on weeknights and on the weekends. Something I personally am interested in is getting together for a German board game night. I play games with my neighbors in German and it's really great practice. Is there anyone who would be interested in that?
Please post your ideas.
Thanks,
Laurel

Okay Ladies, we're all back from the holidays and a few of you have expressed interest in getting games night back up and running. While I was in the States I learned Canasta (sp?) and am looking for some people to play cards with. Anybody in?

I am good too any night except Monday.
I was thinking that perhaps we should try a location in the city center, so that it's accessible for everyone...just my 2 cents.

What do you all think of next Wednesday or Thursday night? Kathryn (Hamburg Koala) said could drop by a little later in the evening if we started doing it on Wednesdays. I haven't heard back from her about Thursday yet.

Hi everyone,
I am new to Toytown and this is my first post, although I have been in Germany for a few years.
I love playing boardgames, especially euro-style games. I have collected hundreds of excellent board and card games since living in Germany and I'm always looking for friends to play them with me.
I would be interested in joining your gaming get-togethers.
My other major hobby is cross-stitching.
I don't work outside the home and my kids are older (11 and 14) so I am free most nights for get-togethers. I could also host at my house.
I live in the Blankenese area of Hamburg.

Generally I'd be interested, but Mat doesn't know about rehearsal dates yet, so I can't commit on a date yet. (OT @Laurel: I heard you are in charge of the costumes? Great!

)
I'd love to play Mah Jongg with you guys again!
edit: would also be OK with Canasta, but need infos about the rules, it's been too long ago...
Hope to see you next week.

I will of course be there on the opening night, and one or two other nights.
I might have to call Mat "His Eminence" from next week on, so that he gets a better feel for the role

Will you be there every evening, Laurel?

Jan 15 2008, 11:00 am
Hi Steph. Ill be coming on the U3 probably. I think I have been to cafe May before about a year ago but I have forgotten how i got there, maybe its best I meet you there just in case I get lost and you end up standing in the cold waiting for me (not a great first impression to make, is it?).
See you all tomorrow.x
Hammonia
Jan 15 2008, 11:56 am
If you take the U3 you can take the metrobus No. 4 at Schlump and get off at Apostelkirche - from there it's a 1 Minute walk.
Otherwise you can take the U2 to Osterstraße and either walk (can't estimate how far), or take the 4 to Apostelkirche.

I'm wondering if anyone has been to the Frieda am Park Cafe on Bernadottestrasse? Their website says they have a games night every first Friday of the month. You can bring your own games or use ones they have available. Just thinking they may have a good set-up (larger tables, etc) for playing games. I haven't been there myself yet so just wondering if anyone else knows anything about it.

Don't know about the others, but I'd prefer our own games night. Also Fridays don't work for me as I have two regular things going on on Fridays already and don't want to commit to more. Just my personal opinion, I'd follow what the majority decides

The café looks very nice, but at our last games night we decided we should find a place close to S-Bahn/U-Bahn, Café May was a bit difficult for some people to reach.
We talked about Finnegan's Wake, which I think is not a bad idea, easy to reach from everywhere, but we would have to make sure that it's not a footy (Champion's League etc.) evening or any other sports event going on, because then we wouldn't really enjoy ourselves I think. Unfortunately the cosy area in the back of the pub has been turned into a smoking room...

I also suggested the Irish Rover, mid week it's normally pretty quiet there, it's easy to reach (short walk from S-Bahn Stadthausbrücke), the landlord and landlady and staff are very nice. (btw. they have a good quiz night on Thursdays, hint hint)
Other ideas: September opposite to Heiligengeistfeld, short walk from U3 Feldstraße and U2 Messehallen, think also a few buses going from there.
I haven't been there for a while, but Max und Consorten near
Hauptbahnhof (main station) might be an idea.

How about I make an *executive decision* and say we will meet next Thursday the 7th? I don't really mind where we meet. How do we find out if there is a game going on at Finnegan's that night? What time works for everyone? Early evening would be best for me.

New executive decision: we will be meeting up on Wednesday Feb 6th at 6 pm for the next GGG (girls game night). Location to be announced - I'll post it as soon as we figure out where we'll be. Please post and say if you'll be coming.
So far I have a head count of:
