What about Wednesday?
marymanu
Mar 10 2008, 10:15 am
Wednesday works for me. What about trying the place Figgy suggested on the other thread:
Mathilde Literature Cafe
It is near 3 U-stations (Schlump, Hoheluftbrücke, Hallerstrasse).
It is very near the Grindel Palast Kino, which I've never had any trouble finding parking near.
Note that there are two locations, a cafe, and a pub. I did inquire about having a meeting there and they basically said "No problem, just call and book a table".
Hammonia
Mar 10 2008, 10:29 am
Works fine for me

What time? And are we open for the commoners?

Just one thing: imo it's not exactly NEAR Schlump, it's abt. 1 km walk, either from Schlump or from Hoheluft, so if there's anybody who doesn't like to walk empty streets in the dark... There's also a bus that brings you a little closer, should be 115 I think.
Figgy
Mar 10 2008, 10:39 am
" commoners" LOL
Wednesday is OK for me.
I haven't actually been yet to the Mathilde Cafe, but I'm willing to give it a try.
I had no trouble finding parking last week for Cafe May because we met earlier, so if we have to keep our meetings there it should be OK for me as long as I get there early enough to get a parking spot.
You decide time and if we invite the guys...either way is OK with me.

In my opinion the more the merrier, so boys are welcome! Shall we say 7 pm at Mathilde? Everyone who wants to come please let us know so we can make a reservation.
Mathilde, Literatur & Café
Bogenstraße 5
20144 Hamburg
Café: 040 / 41495384
Büro: 040 / 41495386
And yes, it is the 115 bus from U Schlump, toward Alsterchaussee, get off at the Bezirksamt Eimsbüttel.
Hammonia
Mar 10 2008, 2:02 pm
Agree about the more the merrier.
But I'd also like to play a little more than the last times. Of course you want to get to know the newcomers, and also have a chat, maybe grab a bite, but can we also put a little more emphasis on the games?
Maybe we say whoever wants to eat gets there a bit earlier... ?
Oh, and you can also take the no. 5 Metrobus from
Hauptbahnhof / Rathausmarkt/ U Gänsemarkt /U Stephansplatz/ S Dammtor... resp. U Hoheluft.
edit: erm, I'm in

- and Mat is thinking about it, so that's a yes and a maybe.

Hi all. Would it be ok for non experienced players to join? I used to do a lot of card games when was in primary school lol. I am happy to learn new games though, and even more happy to have an excuse to chill out and chat with people in English.
marymanu
Mar 10 2008, 6:45 pm
@c4th - None of us are serious gamers, with the exception of Figgy. =0) We just like to get together and have fun. Usually we are all learning a new game (Figgy has about 400!) Everyone is welcome, and you don't even have to ask. Just say "I want to come too!"
@Hammonia - I want to play more too. I looked at the website and I'm not sure the place serves food. (Anyone know?) That's why I said 7 pm - that way people can eat before they get there.

Hi all.
I'll be there wednesday, might be there a bit later though, maybe 7.30pm.
See you then

Most likely Frank has to work late on Wednesday so I will be coming alone. I'll plan to be there before 7.

Mar 10 2008, 9:54 pm
I'd also like to learn the Zug um Zug Europe version.
Hammonia
Mar 10 2008, 10:59 pm
No you don't. LOL
Kidding.
Europe is not SO bad, but I tried the Switzerland version with the PC game (finally delivered) - waaaaah!
Figgy
Mar 11 2008, 7:47 am
Ok, I'll bring BANG! and TtR -Europe and some others. I'd like to get a new one played too!
When we are closer to knowing how many are coming we should reserve a table (or 2). Can you do that Ham?
I look forward to seeing you all again.
Laurel - if the guys are coming maybe you want to ask Graham if he wants to join us.

If we have to walk far from any of these places, would it be better to meet at one of the u-bahns and then walk together?
I'm new to this group but would like to join. What is the count looking like?

I've invited Graham but Steph gets back that night so I think they want to lay low. Matt may or may not be coming. I've invited a bunch more people and haven't heard back from them yet so I'll have to put in my final count tonight or tomorrow morning.
@Ham - I finally got my Zug um Zug yesterday!!! =0)
@okap - I would be more than happy to meet up with you and walk together. I'm planning on arriving at U Schlump via the 181 bus at 6:45 and catching the 151 bus at 6:50. Where are you coming from?
Hammonia
Mar 11 2008, 11:51 am
Can you guys please not call me Ham. Thanks

Laurel, if we don't have an idea about numbers, can you please take care of the reservations? I'm a bit more busy in work at the moment, cannot check the forum all the time. Thanks.
I've also invited two girlfriends but haven't heard back from them. Will give them a call in my lunchbreak and post afterwards.

Okay, I've made a reservation for tonight for 8 people (being hopeful here.) They didn't have one large table available but two small. The reservation is under Talley if anyone gets there before me. See you tonight!

@Hammonia - Maybe Okap recently moved to HH and forgot to change the location on his/her profile? Or maybe got confused. Once I was asking questions about going to something in Munich and never realized, because it was in the HH lists. Anyways, my friend Stefanie is going to come and Matt is also going to try and make it.

Hello...
I am looking for 2 or 3 people that either know, or are willing to learn, the German game of Skat. I learned my first year while living in Bermen, and have played it ever since...even with all that Texas Holdem' revival going on the last years.
Any Takers?

Hey Baden,
I'm up for it. I have played a few times, but the counting system still is a bit, ok alot, confusing.

I'd like to learn Skat. How complicated is it? Does it take long to learn?

Mar 13 2008, 5:21 pm
I'd like to learn Skat Baden. I've heard of it before - someone said it was like bridge (which put me off), but I'd like to give it a go
I might also be able to join the board games group next Thursday, will know nearer the time though. But I'm a definite maybe

Mar 13 2008, 9:50 pm
Great! Then lets have a little Intro to Skat session! I have become pretty good at teaching the basics of the game. Lets plan something after Easter weekend. If you are planning on spending some time in Germany--well, they call it the Germany's National game for a reason.

Hammonia

Wouldn't mind the infantry, girl's only is also fine for me - so you guys decide

Think reservation will not be necessary.
marymanu
Mar 19 2008, 6:08 pm
Yes I think we can just show up. Who's planning on being there?
@Figgy - I'd really like to teach Hammonia Siedler. Would you mind bringing your's for 6 people?
Figgy
Mar 19 2008, 10:37 pm
Frank won't be coming. I may not be able to stay very long.
I don't think Catan for 6 will work at the cafe, the board is quite large and probably won't fit on the tables there. I'm not completely sure though, since we usually play with the add-ons (the Seafarers and Cities and Knights). Maybe just the base game would fit. I'll have a look. I didn't realize Hammonia hasn't played Settlers!
I was thinking also of bringing some card based games that play fairly quickly and don't need a lot of table space.
Is it just 4 of us then?
Hammonia
Mar 20 2008, 10:37 am
Seems so, I find that quite nice

Looking forward to it, see you later

Mar 23 2008, 12:07 am
So we had a very enjoyable afternoon of gaming last Thursday and we decided to get a little more organized for our future get-togethers. We are going to decide in advance what games to play, with each member having a turn at choosing a game.
Laurel has requested a modern classic,
The Settlers of Catan, for our next session, which will be at my house. (Tentatively) scheduled for Thursday, Mar 27. 7:30pm.
I'm assuming that so far we have 4 players, but I have room for 2 more at the table (I have the 5-6 player expansion for the game) if anyone else would like to join us.
In the event that we have more than 6 players wanting to come, we can play a game that would accomodate a larger group and postpone playing Settlers until the following week.
Stephanie has chosen to play
Hamburgum, a fun strategy game about the construction of the famous churches of Hamburg, for the following meeting.
So, is Thursday still good for everyone? (we can adjust the time as well, if you would like to start earlier)
and could someone with more seniority than me update the title, I'm still a noobie and not permitted to do so
Hammonia
Mar 23 2008, 1:30 pm
Hi guys, turns out Thursday is really bad for me - I could do Friday or Saturday - any of that OK for you?
Otherwise just play without me.
Happy Easter!
Figgy
Mar 24 2008, 8:53 pm
Friday or Saturday would be fine with me. What is best for everyone else?
