i've been offered a job by german IT company in munich. they're offering 21k euro/year gross (temporary 12 month contract). i wanted to know if its okay for first time commer, even if i have 6year experience?
i'll have to pay medical insurance and taxes from this pay.

also, what will be monthly living expenses for a single guy at an avg.

- room rent (simple furnished)
- food
- fares for commute
- + anything i missed

Have a look at some of these threads: Salary.

undertaker, I assume that 21K figure is GBP?
Pas
Conquistador's point being 21K Euro is basically slave labour, I think?

@Kay, i have already searched and read posts, but they're mostly in higher range, and for deffirent positions. so i thought it'd be good to post it saparately

i just wanted to know some idea about if there's a 21k euro/year i get, then how much i'll be spending for living, and how mush i'll be saving/take home.

thanks.

21K/year in IT...

and you say you have 6 years worth experience.

come off it!!

21K € seems really low.
Is it a mistake or is it Net?
Small Town Boy
It's either net, or sterling, or a con. It's FAR too low. Not even the interns would bother getting out of bed for €21k gross.

On 21K you're just not saving. It's not livable salary in Munich unless you've got confused and it's Net. You say it's an IT firm but what is the position? It sounds like what the cleaners might be earning.

From this post we can assume it's gross pay. No way is that an acceptable gross salary for any IT position, not even the most rudimentary entry-level desktop support. At any rate, someone with 6 years of experience in any IT subfield should be making more than 21k euros net, even in Berlin.

Maybe his/her username has some clue ? "undertaker"..hmm..

many thanks for the replys,

the position is mobile developer. well, i haven't applied for this position, but i got the offer from the employer, bcoz of my experties in the field.

well, only few people (around me) suggested to look at it, but i'm really worried about expenses. according to my calculations & online research, i endup with ~1400 euro spending/month, including taxes, dining, room and some extra.

i'm still in negotiation part, and i'm looking atleast 30k/y gross to start with and it'll be a 12 month temp. position. what do you think? is it okay as minimum?

thanks
Conquistador
30K euros is still way too low for a mobile apps developer with 6 years of exp. What part of Germany are we talking about? Will they pay any of your relocation costs?
Hutcho
This post is really quite strange. If you have 6 years as a mobile apps developer, and they are scouting for you, something around 80,000€ a year would not be out of the ball park. 21k is simply a joke, to the point I think this post might be a troll.

21k would be ok if you were doing an internship straight out of uni, but otherwise that is pathetic. There is no way you should be considering the job.
lazybum
If you go freelance you would be looking at getting around 21k every couple of months!

i think now i can make some final decisions.
