Connecting to DSL with an old laptop computer

Is this possible if it only has an analog modem?

I´ve got my hands on an old laptop , 250 mhz so that Mrs Humphs and i can both be on line at the same time , but it transpires that it only has a connection for an analogue modem . As we have DSL , this is a minor problem . I have been told that all i need is either a pcmia modem or pcmia lan adapter . Is this true , and which of the two options is better ?

PCMIA Lan adapter - then just a network cable to your DSL jobbie. Assuming it has 2 or more network ports allowed?

A PCMIA modem gets you no further than the modem you already have. You need a PCMCIA LAN adapter, or maybe a USB LAN adapter if your notebook has USB. You can pick them up for under €20 inc. shipping from Ebay. If you are using DSL with a router then simply plug into that and share the connection between you. If you don't have a router then you can swap cables between the modem but only have one of you online at a time. As your wife's LapTop is only 250MHz I presume it's not XP based. If it were, then wireless would also be an option too. Only XP supports wireless connections in a reasonable manner.

Yikes, 250mhz? What OS are you running? you might have some trouble getting it to work, but good luck!

Hell, I've turned old 486's into DSL routers/firewalls before. If a 486 can do it so can your Pentium Laptop
