Edit button for topic titles and spam reporting

New feature available from November, 2007

Editor Bob
All members are now able to edit all topic titles on the forum.

Actually, it's not quite all members, but rather all those who have been registered three months (90 days) or more and who have at least 40 posts to their credit. This is to prevent newcomers from misusing the system.

Remember, all titles should accurately and concisely describe the content of the topic. A casual reader should be able to easily determine the content of a topic just by reading its title. A reader should not need to click the title and read the topic in order to know what the topic is about.

If a title can be accurate and funny, so much the better.

Click to read the guide on how to write a perfect topic title.

All title edits are logged, click to see the statistics on who has edited what.

See also the list of latest title edits across the forum.

Just tried this feature for the first time, and it tells me:

QUOTE
You do not have permission to edit this topic title. Note that titles may only be edited by members who have been registered for more than six months and who have more than 100 posts to their credit. Additionally, only topics that have been active within the last fourteen days may be edited.

All those criteria are fulfilled - the topic is one that I started less than an hour ago - so looks like something isn't working.

The topic title edit page is dependent on you having cookies enabled in your web browser.

If you don't see your username printed on the page, as shown in the screenshot below, it means that the page hasn't recognised your ID (probably due to lack of cookie):

I have cookies enabled (just checked to be sure), so that's not the problem. On the "Topic title edit" page it says "Username: Guest", even though I'm logged in.

I've had the exact same thing happen to me. I just deleted all my cookies for tt and now I can't edit titles, even though I already have more tt cookies in the active list again. It seems to me that some cookie is not being set that should get set... ? Did you log out and log in again? That worked for me.
Editor Bob
If you've got cookies enabled, and you pass the requirements for title editing (six months+ membership time, 100+ posts) but you still can't edit titles, it's most likely because you haven't checked the "remember me" checkbox when logging into to TT.

GreenTea and others, why don't you check this box? Because others use your computer and you don't want them accessing your TT account? That would be the only reason I can think of. You can still check it when you log in, just remember to log out again before closing your browser window.

I'm not allowed to have cookies enabled sad.gif

is there any way around this?

Ha, I checked that box on logging in, and now it works! I can edit topic titles now - ooh, and I see there's other cool stuff I can do, like moving topics to a different forum.

At last I have ze power ... all the forum titles are belong to me, me, ME ... WOO-HOOOO!!! biggrin.gif
