Inexpensive hotels, inns, or B&Bs in Montreal

Info and personal recommendations

We are planning a bit of a road trip over Christmas, visiting Toronto and the surrounding burbs, Niagara Falls then off to Ottawa, Montreal and back to Peterborough for Christmas day. We have places to stay near Toronto and in Ottawa but I would really like some personal recommendations for Montreal. We are looking for an inexpensive but clean and tidy (and preferably quiet) hotel, inn or B&B. We would prefer accommodation with en-suit bathrooms as I don't really enjoy traipsing down hallways to use the toilet. (we have one very nice recommendation already but it lacks en-suit). We would prefer somewhere fairly central but there should also be parking available (on street is ok).

So I am sure there are a few people on TT who know Montreal well and can recommend somewhere for us, as booking off the internet can be a bit hit or miss.

Thanks in advance for your contributions.

Montreal has the nicest hostel I have ever seen. The website says they have toilet and shower in each room, although that wasn't the case when I stayed there (10 years ago). It might be worth contacting them. The hostel is immaculate and the location is very hard to beat.

Try this website: http://www.lanierbb.com/montreal-quebec-bed-breakfast.html

It lists 14 different B&Bs in different parts of town... if I were you, I would try to stay at a B&B in the Plateau because it's central and a great neighbourhood with lots of fantastic restaurants and bars. It's also walking distance from dowtown. Mile End is great too, but a little further out. I personally find downtown Montreal a little skanky (and I think the hostel is right downtown), but that's just a matter of personal taste.

Have fun!

Ami, thanks for the suggestion but I don't think youth hostels are what we are looking for.

Grenouille, thanks for the link! Do you know any of the places personally?
