On 28 October 2007 Lord Mayor Ude will open the two new stations on the U3, extending the service from Olympiazentrum, a station opened for the Olympics in 1972, to Olympia-Einkaufszenrum. Construction began in 2001 and will continue until 2010 when the final extension to Moosach is completed, providing yet another connection to the airport S-Bahn S1 without having to go all the way into town (*Trans-cough-rapid*).

The main action will take place at Oberwiesenfeld (the former name for the Olympiapark and Munich’s first airfield) from 10:30am on with music, speeches by various politicians, blessings from both the Catholic and the Protestant church and the official proclamation of the operating license for the new extension. Then, at 1:00pm (app.) the first trains will run.

More fun will be had at the OEZ with music by “Hot Lips, performances by dancing and fencing groups and Die Linie 1, Munich’s improvisation theater. Both venues will have food stands, kiddy rides and face painting for kids as well as information booths for companies in the area and the MVV and MVG.

You can get to Oberwiesenfeld by … bus. There will be a shuttle bus from Olympia-Einkaufzentrum from 10:00am on, and from 1:00pm on you can take the U-Bahn back.

Why are they calling it 2 new stations? Olympia-Einkaufszentrum already exists. Or are they counting the new U3 platform(s) as a whole new station?

The U3 intersects the U1 at OEZ at a different level and will be continued to Moosach by 2010. So they count it as a new station on that line.

There will be a new station Oberwiesenfeld between OEZ and Olympiazentrum, which lets you out on Frankfurter Ring, plus a new stop for the U3 at OEZ. Not a new station, but a new stop.

It's still Moosacher Strasse there, all the way up to Schleissheimer Strasse. U2 is at Frankfurter Ring.
Stop, station, so what. You get on and off there.

On my MVV map, the new station is called Olympia Park Nord. unsure.gif

i interpreted that to mean 2 new stations "on the U3 line". (even though one already exists, tis on a different line. maybe they could have worded it better, whether on new level or not)
