Hi. Back in New Zealand I used to enjoy "making" curries, both the Thai coconut curry and the Indian style. Here I can find the paste I need for the Thai style no worries, but I cant find the tins (just add meat) here that I used to use to make the indian ones.
I have however found curry powder. But whats that used for apart from sprinkling on top of currywurst?
Is it possible to get "just add meat" tins of curry or is there someway to turn curry powder into an indian curry.
Thanks

The Kaufhof at
Marienplatz has the 'Patak' just add meat curry sauces, which are pretty good.
Hiya...first off, I am shite in the kitchen so if this all goes wrong don't say I didn't state up my proper credentials. Not sure what to do with curry powder or the add meat business but there's a curry paste that even I can use. You basically add a bit to a can of coconut milk, add a a bit of fish sauce, simmer a bit then add whatever meat and vegetables (why do I have "meat and two veg, meat and two veg" cycling through my head). Good and simple. Ive brought mine from the states but I've seen the same in stores all over - a proper asian store would be your best bet but I've seen it in regular stores... check out the asian section. Comes in red and green curry paste.

Kathrin recently bought curry paste in Munich. I think she got it in the HIT supermarket.
I got some myself recently (Saturday actually) and made a kicking vindaloo. Found a fantastic Indian supermarket just around the corner from my apartment. And beside that is an Afro-Caribbean shop where I got some Jerk seasoning. I'm well chuffed!
@jml Yeah thats the south east asian variety. I make it fairly regularly, its good with noodles and frutti di mare and potatoes and chicken. I dont think you can make Indian currys with it though can you?

You can get curry pastes/powders/sauces at most of the
Indian/Asian grocery stores in Munich.
me personally no... I only follow the directions which leads you to the SE variety but an Indian mate of mine uses it...it ends up tasting really different but I guess she leaves out the fish sauce and puts in whatever she wants, lamb, aubergine and sweet potatoes if memory serves me correctly...it tastes like something I would get in a proper Indian restaurant. Either that or its just so damn spicy I can't tell the difference. That could be it actually. Like I said, I'm shite in the kitchen so I'll definitely be checking out 3Lions' recommendations.
you can get bottles of Sharwoods curry sauces in Herties and Kaufhof, you just add what you like to them...yum!

Well you can get all the curry pastes you need from Kohinoor near bayerstrasse. You can prolly find the address in one of the old threads. But the true indian way involves using fresh veggies and dry ground spices. None of this paste shortcuts

The Rosenheimer Platz one is the one I use. They have Patak's, Rajah and Pesto curries. Patak's is by far the best.
There's also curries in the Asian grocer at Heimeranplatz.

Just thought I'd add that I found some massaman paste (or matsuman or however it's spelled) in the Edeka at the airport. It's the only place in Munich I've been able to find it. Yummy!!!
Just in case you haven't got enough places to find curry paste We've found Patak's sauces and others in a little stall on the ViktualienMarkt, opposite the auctionhall, which sell all sorts of indian foods.

There's a great little ship at Hohenzollernplatz - it sells all sorts of Indian pastes. Great also for coriander and lime leaves which seems to be stupidly expensive everywhere else.
I think it's called Asian Fienkost house - but it's right at the Tram/Bus/Ubahn stop
