Killer Boys Locked Up For Stoning DadQUOTE
Five boys aged 12 to 14 have been sentenced to two years' detention for killing a man they pelted with sticks and stones while he played with his son. Ernest Norton, 67, died at a leisure centre at Erith, Kent, in February 2006.
2 years? Stick a zero behind that 2 and that is nearer the mark IMO. Disgusting.

Terrible tragedy. What in the world were the perpetrators thinking?

Like most children, thinking of nothing at the time. Just the usual "Wouldn't it be funny if..."

Horrible story. These sickening beings should spend however many years in a detention centre before being transferred to a prison for another 20 odd years. Apparently they were only trying to hit the cricket stumps. The fact that they were also carrying a baseball bat with them (but no ball surprisingly...) would suggest otherwise.

The BBC carries the story too, saying that the kids were shouting at the guy and his son before they started throwing stuff. Will find the story in a mo.

I don't know how throwing stones at people is considered fun...personally that is just sick. I don't understand how some kids are just so violent.

Well, they're British. Their parents probably are not exactly peace activists. The simple fact is that Britain is a violent country: the only place where simply looking at somebody can get you beaten up.

That can happen in the US too...

Yeah, great idea. One against five is always good odds, and it's not as if these feral delinquents were likely to be carrying knives in addition to the baseball bat.

Better than carrying the guilty conscience of your father being killed infront of you and you just watched it.

He wasn't killed. He suffered a heart attack as a result of the stress. There was nothing the son could have done to prevent that. So how two people dying can be considered "better" than one person dying is something that is beyond my comprehension.

Aye, fight and you may die, run, and you'll live. And dying in your bed, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance just one chance, to come back there and fight
