Inspired by the mammoth Quality of supermarkets in Munich thread, and because I'm bored, I decided to take a look at what Germans in the UK miss from home. Results are taken from chefkoch.de, which is actually a cooking website.
  1. Bread. OK, not suprising. I hate German bread, so it's only fair if they hate English bread.
  2. Decent crisps (chips). I'm sure this one must be a joke, unless the poster was addicted to Erdnuss Flips or paprika anything, about the only crisps you can't get in the UK.
  3. Decent coffee, although the poster explains they didn't have a coffee machine and couldn't find a one-cup filter.
  4. Cold sliced sausage. Maybe they mean the one with funny shapes?
  5. German comedy. I'm convinced this must be joke website I've been looking at.
  6. Creamed Herrings in Sylt sauce. I think they'd miss this if they came to Munich, too.
  7. Königsberger Klopse in caper sauce. As no. 6.
  8. Currywurst (can't find any decent curry-ketchup, even though there's plenty of Indians). Ah yes, that well known Indian delicacy.
  9. Down quilt, hate these wool blankets. Presumably they didn't have their own place, or couldn't find any shops.
  10. Decent pickled gherkins (not in malt vinegar).
  11. Red cabbage with apple, sauerkraut.
  12. Brezen. I would have thought beer gardens and Obazda, too, but maybe they are not from Bavaria.
  13. White asapargus. Because the green one has flavour?
A couple of posters did add that most stuff was in fact available in one place or another (Aldi, Lidl, Harrods) and certainly I know that I could get most of the above in my local Waitrose, although that may be influenced by the proximity of a lot of barracks with soldiers returning from duty in Germany.

Bread, I suppose is understandable because English and German breads are very different (and IMHO the Germans have a much wider variety than the Brits).
Crisps better in Germany? Someone's having a laugh. You can't beat the chemical fusion of Walkers cheese & onion or salt & vinegar, and if you want something less junk there's always Kettle Chips from Norfolk.
The rest are generally Teutonic oddities anyway so hardly surprising you can't get 'good' stuff outside Germany. The buggers should integrate, anyway...
