"I lost everyhting but i still remember how to hate" screams an old Bosnian woman to a crying Dutch soldier. Soldiers from Netherlands who submitted 8,000 Bosnian men to Serbians for execution after taking their weapons away, goes back to Bosnia to face their families. I saw this on TV today, a very sad scene. Both parties were crying, but Bosnian women still distant and full of rage.

Sharpe, I assume this is in reference to Sebrenica in 1995?

I am suprised that the Dutch were able to face the victims' widows. That massacre was probably the worst atrocity of a war full of them.

I respect a lot their going back, facing and apologizing to relatives of those whom they failed to protect.

I saw it on TV. They were not soldiers anymore at least they were not in uniforms.

I would imagine the individual soldiers were fairly sickened by their inaction and want to make amends.
It appears the commanding officer was a bit of a wimp, or maybe he was scapegoated as a wimp by the politicians who thought negotiation solves everything.

As I understand it, it was above all a political failure, as it was politicians who sent troops who were far too lightly armed and did not have the proper rules of engagement to defend people in that town, giving the Bosnian Muslims in Srebrenica the false sense of security that the UN would protect them.
EDIT: Here is the Wikipedia entry on the massacre for those who want to know more. Be advised it will sicken you to read what happened.
