does apple cider like we have it in the states exist over here? or whats the closest thing to it?
Malcolm Spudbury
Not sure what "like we have it in the states" means, but you can get a very nice French cider from the "Fromages et Vins" stall on Viktualienmarkt.

You can also get ciders like Strongbow & Bulmers in places like The Arc, Murphys, Kilians, etc.

The closest thing you'll get to REAL cider IE. the scrumpy from Somerset in Britain is a stall on the Viktualienmarkt that's supposed to be by the tight bend in Blümenstrasse. My mate always goes cos I never have time.

Without paying the outrageous prices of expat outlets etc, Tengelmann do a "commercial" type cider cider (sweet or dry) from France, that is only about 3% but will do at a pinch.

Damn, MS was just too quick! smile.gif

well apple cider that i'm talking about isn't alcohol... o i just found a definition of it...

cider is what you get when you take a bunch of fresh apples and put them through a blender. American cider is unprocessed; appears dark, brown, and cloudy. If you then take this American cider and process it to clarify the juice, you get "apple juice". American cider does not contain alcohol.

and u can drink it warm too
so there ya go...thats what i'm looking for biggrin.gif

erdbeere, the closest I have found to cider was the Hohn apple juice. tongue.gif It is not clear and tastes similar to apple cider. Even in states, there are different types of cider. I like the natural one, but some places used to add some spices like cinammon etc.

What you want is called naturtrüb and can be gotten at all getranke markets. If you want it like Xmas cider, just throw in a cinnamon stick, now available at Wallyworld and a couple of cloves.
Cider in the south is with alcohol and sometimes quite alot. If anyone wants that, go buy "most(sp?)" and mix it with naturtrüb juice to taste. Most tastes more like grappa and not much like apples at all.
