Hello,

my sister has just asked me if i could bring her a stollen back to France (i'm off in a week), but i suppose there are good konditorei and outstanding ones in Munich. As i just moved in a couple of months ago, i absolutely don't know where to go for the best ones.
She also wishes a mix of spices to make some kind of Xmas wine, and about that too i have no clue.
Thanks a lot for those who 'll be able to help !

Have a great evening ,

Florence

I was going to answer Flohmarkt but I think I miss-understood the question.
Carm
I got mine from Stemplinger Bakery on Ismaningerstr, I paid about 17Euro, and my parents loved it.

The stuff you get at the grocer is not bad, but can be very dry sometimes.

the mixes for the Glühwien is called Glühwein Fix- usually avail at the grocer also either in the tea/beverage section or the xmas section.

Well, seeing as Stollen is really a Dresdner tradition, look for the Dresdner Christstollen tins.

Here's a recipe for Glühwein. However you could also buy the little Glühwein bags.

Edit: Yeah, Glühwein-Fix, like Carm said.

Or buy the Glühwein in the bottle and just heat it up... available in any supermarket/drinks outlet (check for best-before-date, mould and bad service first!)

Traublinger bakery regularly wins awards for its Stollen. Don't know whether they already have them yet though. Hofpfister has fabulous Stollenkonfekt (same stuff but in nice bite-sized chunks). It costs quite a lot more than the Aldi equivalent but there's a big difference in taste. Hofpfister's Früchtebrot is good too.

Buy the real stuff. Make sure it is Dresdner Stollen

The true Dresden Stollen, however, is produced in the city and distinguished by a special seal depicting the city's famous king, August the Strong. This "official" Stollen is produced by only 150 bakers.

hang on! isn't buying stollen goods illegal?! boom boom!
seb
Kaefer? Remember a couple of years ago they had some really nice ones.

My Grandmother (from Dresden, as it happens, though she lived much of her life in Manchester) always recommended the Waitrose version blink.gif

Hey,

Dallmayrs stollen is fantastic. I have to take one home every year. Just make sure you check the date on the bottom for freshness.

Aldi Stollen come from Dresden.

My husband once got a Dresdener stollen as a going-away gift from an intern in his office who'd been to Dresden shortly before his leaving do. It was the best stollen ever. Unfortunately we've never been able to find the exact same one again!

Just tell her to go the her local Lidl or Aldi in Britain.

I don't like Stollen myself so can't give any recommendations. However, I have it on good authority from a friend who is a "Konditor" (pastry chef) that the Lidl Stollen is the best he has ever tasted!
