Munich to Stuttgart without taking the train

Suggested alternative means of transport

Hi

I need to get to Stuttgart on Thurs 01.11.07 - I have a train ticket booked but this may yet prove useless because of the ongoing thursday-centric strikes.

Do any coach companies operate a scheduled service from Munich to Stuttgart?. Eurolines and Autobus bayern do not as far as I can tell from their websites.

Any advice greatfully received.

Regret no flexibility on travel date.

Travel on Wednesday?

Note that as of now strikes are not affecting IC and ICE trains, so unless there's a reversal in the court's decision you should be fine. Otherwise, there's always www.mitfahrgelegenheit.de

Also, the strikes have hardly been Thursday-centric. Wasn't the last one on Friday?

Remember that 1st Nov is a bank holiday in several states, including Baden-Württemberg. That may or may not have a bearing on strike action, of course.

Have just seen that Lufthansa fly direct to Stuttgart for not much more than the train ticket, so bacon may be saved.

I can't tell when the strikes are on or not to be honest as I take the S8 which seems to run strike or not with the same level of unpredictable punctuality.

Given that the S8 does indeed operate despite the strikes, getting to Hbf will be no problem, where the ICE will be running because it's not affected by the strike, and as you're travelling on a public holiday (they're only striking on weekdays, you'll notice), I don't really foresee any major difficulties for your journey. But I guess flying would in this instance be a safer option.

wouldn't you also need to take the S8 to get to the airport?
pepper
Yeah, but the S8 seems although not so regularly, to continue to run to the airport even during strike action. This was my problem last time, I was coming back to Munich, S1 was out, but S8 was running something like every 40 minutes

Normally, even during a strike the S8 runs every 20min.

If you know theres going to be a strike the day your leaving, then leave an hour or so earlier.
