The Panama Deception

An Oscar-winning documentary

This has absolutely nothing to do with Germany and probably doesn't add any value to the main purpose of the forum. That's why it is in the miscellaneous section and its only intention is to show a bit of insight into an event which changed the lives of thousands of people. "The Panama Deception" is a documentary which shows different aspects about how and why the US invasion to Panama in 1989 took place. It won an Oscar for "Best Documentary" in 1993.

I saw this film in 1993 while, as an indirect effect of the US invasion to Panama, I was living in Costa Rica . Back then the film was banned in Panama, so you could only watch it illegaly or if you were living abroad. Many of the things said there I had already seen or heard from others during the time the conflict took place, however it was in many ways shocking.

I found this in youtube accidentally while looking for something else and after watching it again after 13 years just thought it may be of interest for some. The whole documentary lasts about 1.5 hours and is showed in three 30 minutes parts. WARNING: The film contains very crude images, so if you have a weak stomach don't watch.

A book somehow related to this topic is "Canal Dreams" by Iain Banks.
