What to do with Arbeitsunfähigkeitsbescheinigung

Doctor's sick leave note and the insurance company

Hi,

I was at the doctor this morning and he gave me some days off. For this, he gave me a arbeitsunfaehigkeitsbescheinigung.

I notified my work already, and I will have to give them a copy of the arbeitsunfaehigkeitsbescheinigung when I am back.

I am wondering what to do for my insurance. I do not speak (or read for the matter) well German so I searched on the internet but I did not find anything useful.

I have to give a copy to my health insurance (Techniker krankenkasse). My problem is that I cannot find what to do. What I mean is that I do not know where to send the paper. I am living in Munich. So I found an adress in Bodenseestr. I am wondering if there something to add to the paper my doctor gave. Should I add a letter explaining something? Or should I send it to somebody specific at the TK? Or should I send it just like that and let them deal with it?

Cheers,
Koubiak

Depends where you live, see the linked list. Choose the one closest to where you live and send the Bescheinigung along with your Mitgliedsnummer (should be on your insurance card). They should take care of it from there.

Hi,

You can send it to the following (or at least this is where I had to send mine)

Techniker Krankenkasse
Postfach 80 19 20
81619 München.

FYI, if you use the query form on the TK website, you can write in english and they will respond to you in English rather quickly.

Thanks for the answers!

I will send it right away.

The sick note has two "layers". The top layer (a bigger piece of paper, including a diagnosis) should be posted to your health insurance. The back copy, which is smaller is the one you give to work.

Yup Kathie has that correct on the dot.

What happens if you don't send in the part that goes to the insurance company? I never have. unsure.gif

You should post or fax the Bescheinigung to your employer right away and not wait until you are back. The employer has to receive it on or before the 4th day of your absence.

If you're only going to be off work for a couple of days, it's not a disaster if you don't send the bit to your health insurance (although you're supposed to). After a long period of absence though, the health insurance takes over paying your wages, so they need to know exactly how long you've been off and what for...
