Drifting (motorsport) in Germany

How to get involved. Anyone here into it?

Is anyone getting involved in Drifting in Germany? I don't think it's as big here as it is in the UK and U.S., but it's probably catching on...I'd like to get involved but I'm not really sure where to start.

In case you don't know what I'm referring to:

I assume the problem is finding somewhere to play these games? Down in Bavaria racetracks are rare as rocking horse shit.

What about the Nürburgring? (They have a Drift-Taxi, but - ok - that`s not what you want...)
There are some "Motorsportvereine" in Köln. FH Köln Motorsport e.V. (for students).

Good luck!

Hulk Hogan's son Nick does this. HTH.

Thanks, I'll check this out (although my German is abysmal unfortunately!)

So I was wondering about this on my way to work this morning. How are the winners decided? Do they have judges all round the track to give people points for 'Style' or something? Do you get penalised if you drive round a corner too fast by driving properly and not drifting?

QUOTE
Drifting competitions are judged based on line, angle, speed, and show factor. Line involves taking the correct line, which is usually announced beforehand by judges. The show factor is based on multiple things, such as the amount of smoke, how close the car is to the wall, and the crowd's reaction. Angle is the angle of a car in a drift, Speed is the speed entering a turn, the speed through a turn, and the speed exiting the turn; faster is better.

Team Drift Competition in Melbourne, Australia.
The judging takes place on just a small part of the circuit, a few linking corners that provide good viewing, and opportunities for drifting. The rest of the circuit is irrelevant, except as it pertains to setting up the car for the first judged corner. In the tandem passes, the lead driver often feints his or her entry to the first corner to upset the chase driver

So more show/entertainment than anything it seems

Ahh ok, I guess I should have read the Wiki... I guess I really just wanted to make a dig at it and accuse it of not being proper racing wink.gif

Looks damn fun though, I grant it that.

Yeah, not what I'd call motorsport as such, more mototainment...but you're right looks like a hell of a lot of fun.

Probably more fun than watching an F1 race I suspect.

As is watching the M25

Yeah, I totally agree that "motorsport" is not really a great classification for it...however "unabashed hedonism" is appropriate enough. The joy of going sideways in a rear-wheel drive car is incomparable.
