only a bit nervous about not being able to roll yet
You're not alone in not being able to roll - but that really shouldn't be a concern for this trip, especially for those that take the opens, as I doubt that they'll be rigged to roll anyway!

I hope that you do catch up with us in April - I'm sure we'll have something going on then.
One question though - when we do figure out who you really are, will you change your handle or do we have to sign some kind of Non Disclosure Agreement?

Jaygee..since u mentioned it, a non disclosure agreement seems like a fun idea..but given we're in a country with a hell of a lot of complicated processes and me not understanding any german..I will guess we have to do without one

Hi everyone.
I just moved back to the area, and looking for activities like this...
Would love to join on SAT. 2nd for the float trip.
I have quite a bit of kayaking experience(ocean, not white water) but have never been in a canoe. I have taken some basic rescue courses and learned how to roll a kayak once upon a time, but would struggle now! ;-)
my bf Luke would also be interested I think. If there is enough equipment to go around, we would love to be a part of this trip.
Ill add us below...
happy paddling

Is the above the final list ? Today, I`ll firm up what we need for boats etc for the weekend. I`ll try and PM everyone on the list with details of what to bring, where, when etc etc by Wednesday afternoon.
If there is anyone else wanting on this trip, you need to let me know today.
Graham & I will be paddling at the
Ismaning bridge wave on Wednesday afternoon/evening & again on Friday afternoon if anyone can make it. Perhaps the Augsburg WW course on Saturday also if anyone want to share a trip out there with me.

Anyone who has seen the weather forecast for Sunday will see its not that great for a full day, season starting float trip. Annette, Tommi et all went down the
Isar section from Freising to Moosberg on Sunday. Was about 3 hrs, and a lot more mellow than the originally proposed WRH-Tolz trip. I propose that we adopt this plan B trip from Freising this Sunday, and save the original plan A for the next good weather window.
The plan B trip is From Marzling to the road bridge crossing the Isar at Moosberg. Its all flat, but a pretty float through the woods. We can still take along cook gear and a tarp shelter for a midway stop, fire, meal etc, even if its wet.
Right now, if the list stays as it is, its just a small group and we will plan on taking kayaks only, plus one hard shell open canoe for gear etc.
Anythoughts ?

Think I`ve PM`d everyone on the list for Sunday this am. If you`ve looked at the weather forecast, its now calling for 45kph wind, 8c as the high & rain for Sunday. Given that we have some novice paddlers, we decided to postone this trip until a better weather outlook weekend.
Consider skiing, they also call for 60cm of snow in the hills
Might go for a workout for an hour Sunday morning at
Ismaning bridge wave if anyone with gear wants to paddle a bit there.

With obvious signs of spring time now to put away the skis and look forward to a season of paddling. I'm very conscious that Dave is busy planning his escape to Sweden so figured it'd be good to try and squeeze in some trips while he is still with us here in Germany. Anyone up for a paddle this coming weekend? JG you put up a couple of posts late last year about a paddle/float on the Wiesent as a warm up. Still interested in doing it? I want to get some easy klicks in as early as possible to try and get my head around these new paddles.
Dave, from conversations we've had recently you're gonna be away for a few weeks but do you know when you're likely to be back and are you interested in getting together for a few days away camping / kayaking possibly even doing this safety training that we've been talking about?

Found a couple of interesting links earlier just having a look around for somewhere to paddle. The tourist infomation in Oetz have put together a particularly nice brochure on paddling the river Oetz, having seen this river in all it's glory that'd be an interesting trip!!!
http://www.oetztal.com/main/files/kayakguide.pdfSecondly, Atlantic Kayak tours have some good information on their site and some useful information on learning to the roll, the traditional way. Here's a link if anyone is interested.
http://www.atlantickayaktours.com/pages/ex.../Rolling6.shtmlAnyone ready to brave a rolling session in the river yet?

I'm a little restricted by work commitments at the mo' but I'm actively trying to manage things there to reduce my hours to a level where I won't feel guilty about taking time out for boating.
Which is a long winded way of saying that I'm a definite maybe to all suggestions for trips and/or sessions but it will be difficult for me to commit 100% or to help with organisation.
Either way it would be good to catch up.

I also can't really commit to any organising and such. But if there's ever a weekend day trip to Augsburg then I'd be keen to tag along.

For those of you who fancy a nice intro to moving water may I interest you in an alternative to the
Loisach trip proposed for Sunday[see below for explanation* on why there are two threads]
On Thursday 22nd May it's proposed to paddle the Wiesent from Doos all the way round to Muggendorf, a total distance of ~17km. Although this is a fair distance it's a very pleasant trip in some pretty scenery with opportunity to stop for refreshments along the way at a (small) number of riverside bars. Total paddling time would be in the region of 3 to 4 hours depending on the speed of the water on the day.
QUOTE (polarquest @ Nov 5 2007, 11:56 pm)

For those without gear it is possible to hire boats/paddles/etc at the put-in at Doos (and at a variety of other locations along the way), they have both single seaters and doubles available (sorry I don't know the cost or have any links). I think this alone should give you an indication that this is very much a good river for novices.
This section is about a 2 - 2.5hour drive north of Munich, with the 60km section above Nuremberg winding round the hills and valleys accounting for a good proportion of that time. I would propose meeting at the take-out at Muggendorf at 11:30 - 12:00 to figure out shuttles etc as parking is rather easier there than at Doos but we should of course look to car share up there too.
Post here or PM me if you're interested.
JG
*Explanation:
A wee while ago we had two "TT Paddlers" threads running, one was for general boating chat, the other for organising trips. Over the winter months the interest in getting wet sunk

a little and the trip organising thread fell further down the board, whilst the general chat thread managed to stay afloat

- consequently when talk of trips started up again the thread that was closest to hand was used.
As we now have two potential trips in the frame very close to each other I think it doesn't hurt to have two distinct threads and rather than start a new paddling thread I thought I'd just reuse the original.
Sorry if I've confused anyone!

JG, Sonja and Stephani are coming along for a day out to sample some of the other delights in the area. Would it not be easier to meet up at Doos and then run your car down to Muggendorf? Saves swapping boats about. I guess it'll depend where we can hire a boat for James. I'm going out tonight to watch the football in town. So I'll call you on the way up tomorrow to decide how we finally do this. Planning to leave about 9.15 so should be up there for 11:30.

May 21 2008, 5:12 pm
Yep - it seems like it's just the three of us so meeting up at the put-in at Doos makes sense. Let's do it that way.
@James I was planning on paddling the RPM(max) but if I paddle the H3 instead perhaps you'd like to use the RPM?

what are we doing about lunch?

Re Lunch - my plan is to have a decent breakfast and then carry a cereal bar or two plus a flask of tea.
As JR is going we'll probably also stop for a bier along the way.
