Suggested destinations in central Europe

Think there is some holiday coming up, so thought I would go and visit somewhere, take advantage of being in central Europe!

Have always fancied Rome so think I will end up there. Milan might be cool also.

Would welcome suggestions for other places within easyish access for a weekend visit by train most likely or car share (if they go that far) and sure people here will have good suggestions. (Personally I want to rule out Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic - only cos I've been there not so long ago not cos I dont like it!)

Its not that I can't look at a map, its just that I've had bitch ass journeys to places relatively close and something easy in a short time would be great.

Thanks.

I did Rome in a few days, after spending time in Florence I wasn't so keen on the museums there.
Venice, Florence, Rome are all nice weekend trips from Munich. If you can rent a car the area around Portofino Italy and CinqueTerra are also a great long weekend trip.

prague, Budapest, Vienna, Berlin, go visit a former roommate of mine (and former rower) in Southern France. She'd welcome a visitor.

done prague and vienna, was thinking somewhere more eastern or southern, ie warmer!

Rome is great, but I prefer Florence as well. Or even Venice. I was just there last weekend. We drove and it took about 5 hours. Good time of year to go because it's a little less crowded. But if it's Rome you desire, you could certainly hop a train and be there in about the same amount of time. Cool city, but v. busy and dirty. Great people watching though! cool.gif

Grab a Bayern-Bohemia ticket and hit Plzen for the huge Brewery/Tour..

yuck. i had to stop in that town and i didn't even want to be stuck there while i was. i wouldn't voluntarily go there. make up your own mind though. it could be nice. i know i didn't really give it a chance.

i'm telling you... visit my friend in France! IF you like drinking and being with a weird spastic person then you'll have the time of your life (by spastic i mean she's hilarious and just weird, but in an entertaining way).
