I´ve just seen on the news that in places in England , kids are going to school in knife proof Kevlar uniforms . What the hell is happening with the youths of today ? As i was of school age , which isnt that long ago , i never fealt that i was ever in danger , and if involved in a scrap , it wae sorted with fists , with no thought of a weapon being used . What has gone wrong in our society to lead to this kind of situation ?

We made a joke in my last year of school about wearing kevlar prom dresses, but then again this was right after Columbine

All the school attacks I've seen have been with guns, not knives. How would these uniforms stand-up to a 9mm to the chest.
These things seem to be targeting parents fear and are more a money maker for the company that makes them than anything.

Profitting from fear seems to work these days...

"Luckily " as far as England is concerned , kids in England don´t have the same gun culture environment as the States , although it isn´t that difficult for anyone to get hold of a gun if they want one . It does seem to be a case of knife culture in England

Unfortunatly , very true , but the point is , whats gone wrong with society to such an extent that we find ourselves in this sort of situation ? A few weeks ago , an 11 yr old was shot dead by a youth in Liverpool in front of countless witnesses , but as far as i´m aware , not one person has yet come forward and given useable evidence .
It seems to me , that as i was growing up , there was a clear line between what was right and obviously wrong , which doesn´t seem to be there anymore , and also , youths of today seem to have no real fear of any possible consequences .

When I was in London in August, I happened to read an article on this. Kevlar sweaters are apparently quite popular with people, especially women, who go jogging or walking their dogs early in the morning / late at night.
Really made me wonder what the world is coming to. Is crime so much worse in the UK than in Germany?

Welcome to middle age. I saw this a few months ago in a US newspaper, they were agonizing about how unsafe UK schools must be.
