For all those Americans and turkey lovers out there who have nowhere to get turkey on Thanksgiving, this may be the perfect thing for you. The Big Easy is hosting a Thanksgiving dinner; 3 courses complete with Turkey carved at the table. The price is €31 p.p which mwy sound expensive but I have been assured by a colleague who went last year (and will be going again this year) that it is money well spend.

The Restaurant hasn't started advertising this event yet but they are taking bookings, so if you don't want to miss out book early.

(just in case it isn't clear, I'm not organising a TT, I am simply providing information)

Is anyone else doing anything for Thanksgiving? I've taken the day off work (and Friday too smile.gif ) but haven't made any definite plans. I have to catch the game (Det vs GB) and enjoy some Turkey smile.gif. I'd host an event if I had space but unfortunately I have a very small apartment. I've managed to get everything for making pumpkin pie, green bean casserole and will order a turkey. So at the very least I'd like to enjoy some Thanksgiving feasting followed by a game day meet-up if anyone is game(?)

hey what are you using to make the punkin pie??? i am soooo jonesin for a slice!
on that same note, i finally found a pie pan, but it was 16€ and i really didnt wanna pay that much.
did you find canned stuff, or are you making it from pumpkins?
ExTexinMunich
Does this look anything like an American Thanksgiving dinner, with the exception of the turkey?! Any other suggestions would be appreciated!!!

yes, cook yourself.

You can get the Pumpkin pie mix and evaporated milk in the basement grocery store at Karstadt downtown between Karlsplatz & Marienplatz. The pie crust you will have to make on your own, the can has instructions on the inside label (must peel the label off).
ExTexinMunich
Thanks TexMunich...it has been a while...Hope you are well and settled here...at least some people give useful suggestions...will look for the pie stuff at Karstadt...

Good luck on your baking. Are you still employed as a Nanny?

Two weeks to the Texas Longhorn and Texas Aggie Game. Gig'em Aggies. Whoop!

I got a few pie crusts from a military friend (base access). The pumpkin pie can be made with real pumpkin or Libby's which as previously stated is available in Kaufhof. I don't have that much time to make it from scratch, so went with Libby's. I happen to have French's Fried Onions from the States and Cream of Mushroom soup, so I will make green bean casserole. I was also toying with the idea of making deviled eggs, anyone have a good recipe for over here?

Again, anyone going to join up for watching the Thanksgiving day games? I also took Friday off and plan to head downtown for the day and do some shopping, anyone interested in meeting up for drinks?

Gig'em Aggies. Whoop!

Oh no, I can't even avoid Aggies on the other side of the planet... wink.gif

Do they play US College Football on TV anywhere over here? I'm sure it's a stretch, but I've been missing my college ball since I've been over here.

I am thinking of hosting Thanksgiving at my place. I don't have any idea how to get a turkey cooked though as I am a working girl...maybe someone would like to help host and come over during the day and cook at my place? Or if you are interested in coming to a Thanksgiving dinner party at 7:30 here in the city center just send me a PM. All nationalities are welcome!
ExTexinMunich

I've watched all the Aggie games with slingbox connected to a friends DISH satellite in the states. Though the games weren't pretty. Hopefully the Texas game will be more enjoyable.

Might also try Piazza Linda. 4 course meal and live music. 35 Euros per person. Very cool place. Make reservations.

My friends and I have boycotted The Big Easy ever since the evening we (party of 8) got kicked out for laughing too loud. Well, we didn't actually get kicked out, just asked (politely) to keep the laughing down by the waiter, who was asked to do so by the manager, who was apparently too chicken to come ask us himself.

We were not drunk, and not boisterous. We were quite shocked at the request, to be honest, but we didn't want to spend the rest of the evening monitoring our laughing (no, we weren't all Americans.)

So we took our business elsewhere, and invited along a couple of other nearby tables of gents, too.

I guess The Big Easy might be the place to enjoy a quiet, refined Thanksgiving, but don't go with a large group if you think you might have a good time. Piazza Linda is a much friendlier place; no doubt that's why they're booked out.

My word, I wish more restuaurants would react when a really happy group thinks to liven up the entire establishment with their happy laughter.

Do you think you were asked because the owner had a vile hangover, hated your nationality, or just likes destorying his business. Or could it have been that he found your non drunk, non boisterous laughter disturbing to the rest of his patrons?

Does anybody actually like the food at Piazza Linda?

Well, we had 33 people at the over 30's night at the end of August and we were LOUD and demanding and still the waitress kept smiling. I also had a group of 10 there for brunch recently and we also had no problems. Seems you just had a one off bad experience which is a shame as The Big Easy is a great restaurant.

I went there last year. The music was shite; some idiot strumming a guitar and singing self-penned dross. The food came from nice tins and packages and I was told that this is what giving thanks is all about. Not so sure - so I'll stay home in Pikeyville this year. At least the turkey is real since we steal it ourselves.

I would love to come, but now I'm kinda stuck because I didn't think anyone was really interested in doing anything so I went ahead and ordered my turkey which I pickup first thing Thursday morning. I have everything else I mentioned before but its really just the misses and I celebrating. Unfortunately I live in a shoebox with windows sad.gif

No.
Went there a few years ago for Thanksgiving. Even our table neighbor, one of the Käfers (so he claimed) with a young blonde (they're just friends wink.gif so they claimed) didnt enjoy their meal either. Maybe its gotten better though.
