Life in Central Germany

Oh, praise the lord!

QUOTE
Berlin, Frankfurt Rhein-Main, Hamburg, Munich, Franconia, Bodensee, Baden-Württemberg, NRW, Hannover, Elsewhere, Central Germany

Er...maybe Central Germany, then Elsewhere, then Berlin, then Munich etc...
malikos
At least we are now before Hannover.
Small Town Boy
Until recently, this area was known as East Germany... I believe "Eastern Germany" is the PC phrase nowadays. An "Eastern Germany excluding Berlin" forum would make sense to me. Since Dresden is a stone's throw from Poland, it's clearly not central Germany.
malikos
Ok so have we agreed to call it Eastern Germany, will that be controversial.

Vicar any remarks.
the vicar
The German states Saxon, Saxon-Anhalt and Thüringen have the name "Mitteldeutschland" (Central Germany). They called themsleves that presumably to get rid of some of the stigma which is attached to the name "East Germany". Whether it's a geographically accurate description or not, I don't give a monkeys.

Mitteldeutschland

still i got confused when the name changed... i was like but dresden is hardly in central germany... what if the name were 'eastern germany' doesnt quite have the same stigma as 'east germany' does it?
Small Town Boy
Anyway, you're expats, not ex-communists, so there's nothing to be embarrassed about.
the vicar
It's what the locals call the area. So speak to them about it.

"East Germany" or "Eastern Germany" would include areas like, God forbid, Meck Pom. A move we clearly don't want.
the vicar
Here's a map of Germany. As you can clearly see, we're in the centre of Germany. ph34r.gif

PS. We'll have Erfurt taken out of "Elsewhere" and put in its rightful place in "Central Germany", thank you very much.
the_eagle
Saxony otherwise known as ''Dunkel Deutschland''. It would not be the Silicon valley of Germany for sure.
the vicar
That's the spirit, my son. Bringing a ray of sunshine to these dark parts.

Hey whats wrong with MecPomm??? The Sachsens seem to love to vacation here!!!
the vicar
Just having gentle poke. The point was that having a forum "Eastern Germany" would be a very large area. Saxon, Saxon-Anhalt and Thüringen have naturally a close link and Rostock is miles away.

So who starts this "Penisverglich" forum baloney. I do not think it is a question of what it is called, more who knows about it: I know few people in Leipsch that have heard of TT.

Maybe we could call it the hub, after all DHL is here, or what about the heartbeat???

As for meet ups a Thanksgiving would be great idea: Especially as my fav Amie cook pissed off back to the States.
the vicar
Greetings Rafs!

You're right, it's important that people know about the forum. However it should be clear to which region you are posting so that people can find us. Having a name like "Hub" or "Dicks in Leather Trousers" doesn't clarify which region you are posting to.

First of all, you need to define what the region is . It is all the "Neubundesländer" or is it just "Saxon" or "Mitteldeutschland"? If the region is too small you won't get many posts. (Only an idiot, for example, would start a English speaking forum for Halle / Saale) If your region is too big you won't get that cosy loving feeling.

I'm actually spending Thanksgiving in the States. I'm expanding my ipod import/export business. However, why not put your idea in the events and meetup section.

hi m8

Was never serious about the hub? sorry forgot my wink.gif (emoticon)

Thks for the idea for Thanksgiving. Kinda new here.

What ya doing in Leipsch apart from this ipod ting? and any particular haunts.

I found a new bar for sports called Down Under on Wald Strasse, watching the Rugby at the moment.

Back to the forum category, maybe "New federal states" would be a good classification.

cheers stew.t.

Just of question of size really. How big an area should the forum cover?

I'd prefer to have it called "Middle Germany", instead of Central Germany.
BadDoggie
If you're north of the Donau, you're Scheißpreußen. FACT.
Yes, Nürnberg, you too.

woof.

I'd prefer to have it called "Middle Germany",

Central London, Central Asia, Central America, Central East...
Beeblebrox
Middlesex, Midlands, Middle Earth...

Why would we want to follow convention anyway?
the vicar
Exactly. Let's take off all our clothes and romp free.

Hi,

I am German. The regions of Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt and Thüringen are historically Mitteldeutschland, that's correct. Nowadays, from a geographical viewpoint, Central Germany is Hessen, Sachsen-Anhalt and Thüringen. In fact, the geographical middle of Germany is close to Eisenach in Thüringen, close to the Hessen border.

I suggest, you fully partition Germany here on TT in regions which have proper names and which fully cover all of Germany. And please delete "Elsewhere". It doesn't make sense to me. dry.gif
the vicar
Hi Zeta

Have a look at this link. Mitteldeutschland (Central Germany) is name of the region here. What would you call the region?

Maybe you should also write to the MDR TV channel and MZ newspaper and ask them to change their names. tongue.gif

I hear a bell ringing, why don't I like the term "partition" when applied to Germany? Hmmm, must google...
